5. player. 52. . LB. UCLA. Myles Jack

There’s a lot of talk about Jalen Ramsey being the selection at fifth overall and there’s no doubt he would be a great addition to the defense (as outlined in this mock draft) but there are other options to consider and Myles Jack is possibly the top guy on Dave Caldwell’s draft board.

More from Black and Teal

The linebacker out of UCLA can do it all and he’ll be the perfect pairing with stud outside linebacker

Telvin Smith

for the Jaguars. The recent moves at the top of the 2016 NFL Draft really opens up the opportunity for the Jacksonville Jaguars to land Jack, bringing in the perfect player for their defense.

Jack can go sideline to sideline, is  a dependable tackler, and he’s the kind of player who can excel against the pass as well as the run. He sets a tone and can be relied upon to give 100% effort each and every down. Jack doesn’t take downs off and he doesn’t give the opposing offense a break. He’ll force them to conform to his will, which is something the Jags desperately need.

There’s no question about Jack being an excellent addition to the Jags defense. What matters most, however, is that he is an excellent fit.

After addressing the secondary and defensive line in free agency, the Jaguars are largely unchanged in the linebacking corps. Paul Posluszny, Dan Skuta, and Telvin Smith all figure to be the top guys in 2016 unless Jack is selected and able to shift the depth chart. Jack would be the most talented player at the three positions by far and would be able to play any of them if called upon.

The Jags can’t go wrong with Jags, but it still doesn’t address one of the top needs for the team.
