Round 2: Eli Apple, CB Ohio State

The Jacksonville Jaguars recently visited with the Ohio State product and getting a CB early in the draft makes since. Even with the Prince Amukamara signing, the Jags need help in the back 4. Besides the Jags don’t know if Amukamara can even stay healthy as that has been a big problem for him his first 5 seasons.

The Jags really have three corners on the roster that are “starter” material, one of them goes down and the whole back end of the defense is in jeopardy. This means the Jags need to be able to groom someone to step in during any situation. Apple can play good man to man coverage and could excel in bump and run as well, being able to press the receiver at the line of scrimmage and then drop back into zone.

At 6’1 and 199 lbs, Apple is a taller corner like Gus Bradley prefers in his defensive scheme. He did 13 reps and ran a 4.40 40 yards dash time at the combine, good for press cover ability. The only problem is will he fall to the second round? If he does, he won’t make it past the Jaguars.
