The Jacksonville Jaguars have elected to play a continuing series of games in London in an attempt to market their team overseas and become the UK’s team. We knew they would be back in London in 2016 (possibly twice) and Wednesday they announced who their opponent would be and when: the Indianapolis Colts on October 2nd.

There was some speculation that the Jaguars would spend two weeks in London playing a home game and an away game, but that isn’t in the cards in 2016.

It’s an interesting choice to make the London trip a divisional matchup, but it makes sense if you look at the rest of the schedule. The Jaguars didn’t want to give up a big home game against the Green Bay Packers, and they have other enticing showdowns with up-and-comers in the Minnesota Vikings and the Oakland Raiders.

After two straight blowout losses, the Jaguars finally won a game in London against the Buffalo Bills in exciting fashion. If the Jaguars can string together wins in multiple years, they have a good chance of actually becoming London’s team.

It would be a great story if a team that is historically (and ignorantly) mocked in the US for a lesser fanbase can establish themselves as a legitimate international entity.
