Prowling The Web: Jacksonville Jaguars rise up

Jacksonville Jaguars fans saw that there was definitely going to be something cheer about in 2015 during the first game of the preseason with the Jaguars emerging victorious over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Here’s the latest from around the web this weekend.

What we learned: Steelers week – Jacksonville Jaguars team site

"Blake Bortles is almost certainly, definitely, obviously improved. The second-year veteran looked improved during the offseason. He looked improved in training camp. He absolutely looked improved in a 23-21 Preseason Week 1 win over the Steelers Friday. He was more accurate. He was poised. He showed good footwork. He made good decisions. He moved the first-team offense. He went 11 of 15 for 118 yards with three drops. So, why “almost certainly … improved?” Well, we still have to see it during the regular season and it has to last, but what we have seen is oh-so-encouraging."

5 takeaways for the Jacksonville Jaguars – NFL Spin Zone

"Denard Robinson and Nick Marshall both made cases for the kick return job with Robinson returning a kick 34 yards in the first half, and Marshall returning one 35 yards in the second half. The Jaguars had three returns over 34 yards in their first preseason game. All three returns had the potential for much much more. The longest punt return for the Jaguars in 2014 was 23 yards, and the longest kick return was 40 yards."

Julius Thomas and Johnathan Cyprien will be ready for Week 1 – ESPN

"“My gut feeling is that it looks pretty good [for Cyprien and Thomas to return for the opener],” coach Gus Bradley said. “We trust our doctors and the information we’re getting. The arrow’s up that we should get them for the first game. I think that we’ll know more in a couple weeks.”"

Jacksonville Jaguars show major improvement in the offseason – Bleacher Report

"And as good as his night was, he wasn’t the only one to impress. With rookie running back T.J. Yeldon sitting out, Denard Robinson and Toby Gerhart did a fantastic job of taking advantage with good performances from each. For Robinson, he showed the same flashes of speed and instinctive running and that resulted in a respectable 22 yards on four carries. For Gerhart, he showed signs of what the Jaguars were looking for when they signed him via free agency in 2014."
