2) Bernard Pierce, Running Back

Bernard Pierce is not a guaranteed lock for the final roster and is battling it out with Storm Johnson and Carey Grant for that fifth running back spot on the team. Pierce showed the most on Friday night, especially with an athletic hurdle of a defender in the middle of the game.

Pierce finished the night with five rushes for just 15 yards and was bottled up easily on some of those attempts. I would like to see more of him as a runner, but his athleticism that he displayed keeps things interesting. That hurdle was a highlight of the night and kept him at the forefront of our minds while Grant and Johnson sputtered.

Pierce also contributed in the passing game, catching three balls for 22 yards.

I haven’t been a fan of the Pierce addition and think that his career to this point demonstrates that he has a low ceiling. He’s also a character concern, getting booted off the Baltimore Ravens squad for a DUI. There isn’t anything that screams impressive about him, but on the football field on Friday he kept us interested.

Will that be enough? Probably not in the long run. It has him rising in my mind, though.
