Cecil Shorts III to Visit Rival Houston Texans
By Luke Sims
Cecil Shorts III, the big play receiver for the Jacksonville Jaguars, is looking to take his talents elsewhere in the 2015 NFL Free Agency period and, after being passed up in the first week of free agency, has now turned his attention to the Houston Texans.
The Texans, who are looking to add some more receiving talent to a decent core group already could do a lot worse than Shorts, who is a big play threat whenever the ball heads his way.
Shorts, however, has struggled to consistently be a threat having a series of soft tissue injuries hold him back from achieving his potential. He’s come close to being the first Jags receiver to break 1000 yards since Jimmy Smith, but he hasn’t been able to stay on the field for a full season to give it a shot.
The Texans have seen the 27-year old twice a year for some time and have got to be comfortable understanding what he can and cannot bring to the table. It’s a smart move for the Texans to bring him in, especially if they can afford the risk that he may not see the field all the time.
From a Jaguars perspective, it’s rough to see Shorts go to a division rival. That said, the Jags have re-stocked the wide receiver position in the last year and look poised to have the most impressive group of receivers they’ve fielded in a long time. Shorts became expendable and the team was more than happy to move past a receiver who struggled to stay on the field. Allen Hurns, Allen Robinson, and Marqise Lee will have to fill the void left by the veteran receiver by becoming more consistent pass catchers in year two.
Good luck to Cecil Shorts wherever he ends up.
