Losing DeMarco Murray Signing May Not Be All Bad for Jags

DeMarco Murray is holding 2015 NFL Free Agency hostage and that’s just the way he likes it.

Right now the Jacksonville Jaguars, Philadelphia Eagles, Oakland Raiders, and Dallas Cowboys wait with baited breath to find out what Murray is going to do.

Murray left the teams hanging after day one of free agency and the teams continue to wait to see what he’ll do in day two.

Right now it looks like the Jaguars are on the outside looking in as DeMarco Murray heavily weighs joining the Philadelphia Eagles. While it’s still anybody’s shot, it’s looking more and more like the Eagles will be the team to sign with.

And you know what? That’s not all bad for the Jaguars.

Right now, there are plenty of quality players at running back left to sign and this year’s draft class may be the best for running backs in a long, long time. That’s all positive for the Jags.

Further, they wouldn’t have to commit an excessive amount of money to a player at a position that is slowly becoming less and less relevant. Murray was great in 2014, but so was that Dallas Cowboys offensive line and the Jaguars certainly don’t have players on the same caliber as them (though they did pick up one of their 2014 starters at right tackle).

As the NFL world waits on Murray, don’t hold your breath. If he comes to Jacksonville, that’s great. He’s a quality runner and instantly makes the offense better. If he doesn’t, don’t worry too much about it because there are plenty of other fish in the sea (well, running backs at least) and the Jags can get anybody they want at this point in the game.

So while the waiting for Murray gets more and more ridiculous with each passing minute, don’t worry too much about the outcome. The Jags are still trending upward and have managed to sign some really quality players during the 2015 NFL Free Agency period. DeMarco Murray is a luxury at this point and the Jaguars will make do with some other lesser-paid options if they have to.
