Walker Little helps Jaguars overcome Cam Robinson's departure vs. Patriots
The Jacksonville Jaguars need to beat the New England Patriots if they want to avoid catastrophe in 2024. However, they aren't off to a great start. Trailing 10-0, they lost left tackle Cam Robinson to a concussion.
Robinson left the game in the first quarter and is being evaluated for a concussion. It's uncertain if he'll return for the game. For the time being, fourth-year pro Walker Little will step in his place.
Not long after the Jags lost Robinson, they scored to make it 10-7, so it looks like they're managing to overcome his absence.
A second-round pick in the 2017 NFL draft, Robinson is one of the Jaguars' longest-tenured players. He's been inconsistent this season but has fared much better in recent games. After giving up 13 total pressures and four sacks in the first three games, he's allowed just two total pressures the past three.
On the other hand, Little has played 32 offensive snaps this season and surrendered two total pressures. The former Stanford Cardinal was a second-round pick in 2021 and has made 17 starts throughout his NFL career.
Robinson and Little have been the subject of trade speculation in 2024. The two of them are starting-caliber left tackles and both are slated to become free agents next year.
At least in Week 7, keeping both looks like the right decision. With Robinson out for an indefinite amount of time, Little can hold the fort without missing a beat.
The Jaguars could still trade Cam Robinson in the upcoming weeks
Surprisingly, Jacksonville chose to keep Robinson around despite the fact that he had a non-guaranteed salary of $17 million in 2024. The guarantees on his contract were void when he got suspended for violations to the league's performance-enhancing drug policy in 2023. Still, the front office could trade him ahead of the November 5 deadline.
After all, the Jags are 1-5 and without a realistic chance of turning things around. They already sent defensive tackle Roy Robretson-Harris to the Seattle Seahawks and could make other moves to garner extra assets for next year. On top of that, there are a handful of teams vying for a playoff spot that could use help at left tackle.
Circling back to Week 7, it's never good to see a player leave with an injury. The silver lining is that the Jacksonville Jaguars have managed to stay in the game even though Cam Robinson is unavailable.
