Giants suddenly emerge as the perfect destination for Jaguars to trade Cam Robinson
The Jacksonville Jaguars traded defensive lineman Roy Robertson-Harris to the Seattle Seahawks and could make more moves before the November 5 deadline. One of the players they could deal is left tackle Cam Robinson, and the New York Giants might be the perfect team to do business with.
Giants left tackle Andrew Thomas suffered a foot injury in Week 6, and Ian Rapoport of NFL media reported that he's in Charlotte meeting with Dr. Robert Anderson, known around the league as a foot specialist/expert.
Rapoport goes on to say that Thomas will be out for the season if he undergoes surgery, which is a possibility.
While there's no doubt that losing Thomas would be a massive blow for the G-Men, the silver lining is that they have several options to withstand his potential absence. One would be to plug draft disappointment Evan Neal at left tackle.
Neal was the seventh overall pick in the 2022 draft and played right tackle for New York in his first two seasons. However, he struggled and suffered a foot injury in 2023 that cut his sophomore campaign short. Thomas' injury would pave the way for him to return to the startling lineup.
Another option would be to have Jermaine Eluemunor replace Thomas. The former Texas A&M Aggie can play on both sides but has lined up at right tackle for the Giants this season.
If Big Blue isn't placed with their in-house options, they should then give the Jaguars a call as soon as possible.
The Giants must call the Jaguars and consider replacing Andrew Thomas with Cam Robinson
Trade season in the NFL officially began when the Jaguars sent Roy Robertson-Harris to the Seahawks. Since then, running back Cam Akers, and star wide receivers Davante Adams and Amari Cooper have also changed teams.
Circling back to the Jags, they could be sellers before the deadline. They're currently 1-5, and it's hard to see them turning things around. If they set their sights on 202eft tackle Cam Robinson could be one of the players they place on the trading block.
Robinson has a salary of $17 million for 2024, and none of it is guaranteed, which could potentially facilitate a trade. A second-round pick in the 2017 draft, the Alabama product has spent his entire career in Jacksonville. While he's not a Pro Bowl-caliber tackle, he's a capable starter.
This season, Robinson gave up a concerning four sacks and 13 total pressures in the first four games but no sacks and only two pressures the past two. That's more or less how he's performed throughout his career. If the Jags were to move on from him before the deadline, Walker Little could step in his place.
Add the fact that the veteran left tackle is set to become a free agent, and the team's brass may be incentivized to place him on the trade block. Given the Giants' current need at the position, the Jaguars could ask for a fourth-round pick, maybe even a third.
Then again, New York may not be the only team that expresses interest in potentially acquiring Robinson before the deadline.
