Trevor Lawrence's incredible ability rolling left makes him a unicorn among NFL QBs

When the Jacksonville Jaguars trounced the Cleveland Browns with ease in Week 1, they showed that their success in 2025 was no fluke. Trevor Lawrence, for his part, proved that he deserves to be in the early MVP conversation with a nearly flawless outing.

Lawrence went 18-of-23 for 245 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions. While his needle-threading pass to Josh Cameron was arguably his best of the day, there was another one that didn't get nearly as much attention as it deserves. Early in the third quarter, No. 16 rolled to his left and threw a 32-yard touchdown to wide receiver Jakobi Meyer to put Jacksonville up 24-0.

With his jaw-dropping throw to Meyers, Lawrence proved that he's a unicorn among quarterbacks in the NFL, and Liam Coen doesn't truly know how he does it.

Liam Coen met with the local media and stated that he doesn't know how Lawrence is so successful when throwing across his body, noting that he's just naturally that gifted.

"I don't know. Seriously, it's pretty impressive. Some of those throws from last year that were all kind of going to his left as well," Liam Coen told reporters (3:30 mark). "I referenced that, I think, in one of the press conferences that we had earlier in training camp or before the season, and I think he just can get deliver more torque. Like when he's going to his left, it's actually, I think, one of his most natural throwing motions is when he is going to his left because he truly gets more rotation on it, and it just comes out of his hand."

Coen continued, "They can travel; they can keep traveling while going to his left, which is typically challenging for a lot of quarterbacks to do. Not that that play was, but when oftentimes when quarterbacks are going out to their left, and they're throwing the ball like in the middle. You're kind of like in those 'Oh no no no no moments,' and then it's, 'Oh great that wasn't one of them,' but that can happen when throwing across your body at times for some quarterbacks, and I think it's just kind of his the way he throws, the way he's built."

Later in the exchange, Coen said that it just comes naturally to Lawrence, pointing out that he doesn't deserve credit for it, noting that the Jaguars don't have a drill to help him hone that part of his game.

Trevor Lawrence will need his unicorn skills to help the Jaguars beat the Broncos

Trevor Lawrence is off to a great start to the 2026 season. Then again, nobody will confuse the Cleveland Browns with a playoff contender any time soon, respectfully. Things will get substantially tougher when the Jaguars face the Denver Broncos in Week 2.

Although the Broncos are coming off a disastrous loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the opener, they've had a penchant for starting slow and get hotter as the season progresses under head coach Sean Payton. This is why Liam Coen isn't taking Denver lightly. The good news is that the Jags have no shortage of firepower on both sides of the ball to come out of Empower Field with a win in Week 2.

On offense, in particular, Trevor Lawrence is playing the best football of his career, and it's hard to see him regress any time soon. You could make the case that shredding the Broncos' secondary won't be nearly as easy as dismantling the Cleveland defense, and you would be absolutely right.

Having said that, Lawrence already beat the Broncos last year, completing 63.9 percent of his throws for 279 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions.

Even if it's not easy this time around, expect the sixth-year quarterback to put up yet another strong display to help the Jaguars beat Denver and solidify his case for the MVP award.
