Trevor Lawrence just validated what Jaguars fans believe about Brian Thomas Jr.

• He's put an emphasis on that.

The Jacksonville Jaguars will need Brian Thomas Jr. to get back on track next season if they want to take their offense to new heights next season. While Trevor Lawrence is coming off a banner year, his connection with Thomas, at times, left a bit to be desired, and it's fair to wonder just how much better the Jacksonville passing game would have been if they had been on the same page.

The good news is that Thomas is putting in the work to bounce back, something that hasn't gone unnoticed by head coach Liam Coen. Similarly, Lawrence is ecstatic about all the effort the 2024 first-round pick has made throughout the offseason program.

Trevor Lawrence is working in his connection with Brian Thomas Jr.

Trevor Lawrence made an appearance on the O-Zone podcast and said that he's worked on his connection with Brian Thomas Jr., pointing out that he's also done his part to improve.

"So, there is the priority in my mind of, I mean, we all know the type of player BT is, and what he's capable of, and so talented, and I felt like last year, at times, we just were on the same page, for whatever reason, a lot of different things come up," Lawrence told host John Oehser (2:48 mark). "So, a main priority for me was we got it, we just got to get on the same page on all of our routes, our timing, and I feel like we've taken a huge step in that area, and then shots down the field, always giving him a chance, put it out there, we can run under it."

Lawrence continued, "I mean, he's so fast, he's running by guys all the time for the last three days, so I think a lot of that was, looking back also at myself and said, okay, where can I improve and get better, and how can I, how can I get him the ball more accurately on time down the field, give him opportunities to go run under and make plays, because he's such a talented player."

"We just have to find those opportunities more, so we talked about a lot, me, BT, Liam, all of us, and just emphasizing that part of our offense, and it's starting to pay off, and it's just the beginning. We still have a lot of time to work on it, but I'm very pleased with the steps we took. We hit a bunch of shots on the field, and BTS looked awesome, not just that, though."

Lawrence seemingly clicked with Jakobi Meyers as soon as he was traded to the Jags. Similarly, Parker Washington was the team's most reliable receiver in 2025. However, Thomas struggled with drops and was seemingly unwilling to run routes in the middle of the field. While he's working to fix both issues, it's refreshing to hear No. 16 that he is also doing his part to hone their connection.

The Jaguars can be unstoppable if Brian Thomas Jr. bounce back

Even though Parker Washington is poised to have a bigger role next season, Brian Thomas Jr. is also expected to be a big part of the Jacksonville offense. His ability to stretch the field, in particular, can give him an extra dimension the Jags would have loved to have last year.

Early in 2025, the Jags asked Thomas to run a more varied route tree. He struggled, which led the coaching staff to tweak his role later in the year. The Walker, Louisiana native managed to finish strong, so it's fair to assume that he may be even better if he cuts down on the drops and expands his route repertoire. Having a better rapport with Lawrence will help.

Brian Thomas Jr. has watched his stock soar throughout the offseason program. And based on Trevor Lawrence's comments, he should look much more improved by the time the regular season rolls.
