The Jacksonville Jaguars hired Liam Coen as their head coach to steer the ship in the right direction after a couple of disappointing seasons. Trevor Lawrence has praised him several times, and it was no different during his appearance on the Kay Adams Show.

Lawrence told Kay Adams that Coen's energy stands out, pointing out that his lack of experience won't be an issue for the Jaguars.

"It's been so I talked to him before, before he actually was here doing his interviews and stuff, or not interviews, his press conference and stuff. I talked to him on the phone," Lawrence said. "Just his energy, I could hear it immediately. And then meeting him here, we've spent some time, more extended time together now, and just his energy, he's passionate. He has this drive to win, to have success. Obviously, this is his first head coaching gig, and he has a lot to prove."

Lawrence continued, "And to see what he's done in the past as a play caller, with a lot of different quarterbacks, a lot of different types of quarterbacks, too, at college, the NFL level. What he did with the Bucks last year, I'm really excited: just from a football perspective, of the scheme, the offense we're going to run, how he sets everything up, the run game. I'm just really excited for that. But the leader, the energy, he's a younger guy, I think just the juice he's going to bring into the building, and the staff he hired, it's a good mix."

"We have a lot of young coaches, but we also have some veteran, older guys that are that have been doing it for a long time, that are experienced. I think he's done a really nice job assembling the staff and personality-wise, I love the guys that he's gotten, as far as Grant [Udinski] and Spencer [Whipple] — OC and quarterback coach — and everybody else that I've met has been great."

In the same interview, Lawrence said that the biggest difference in the offense will be the emphasis on running the football.

As Lawrence noted, one of the biggest reasons the organization hired Coen was his work as the offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season. With him at the helm, the Bucs' running game went from one of the worst in the NFL to one of the best in a one-year lapse. Moreover, Baker Mayfield enjoyed a career season.

In Jacksonville, Coen is expected to have a similar kind of impact. Below is Lawrence's full sitdown with Adams. His comments about Coen and the new coaching staff start at the 7:37 mark.

The Jaguars are in better shape than they were one year ago

Trevor Lawrence's comments are noteworthy because, in the same interview, he acknowledges that the Jacksonville Jaguars haven't always put him in a position to succeed. That said, it's refreshing to see him focus on the future instead of dwelling on the past. This will be important if No. 16 wants to bounce back from what's been a couple of underwhelming seasons.

Granted, Lawrence hasn't gotten much help from the Jags, but as the franchise quarterback, he's expected to lead the team to the promised land. Sure you could make the case, that it's not fair to put the fate of the organization on one player's shoulders, but that comes with playing the position that has the biggest outcome in the outcome of the football game.

Working in Lawrence's favor is that Coen knows that he alone cannot win football games, so he'll take some pressure off his shoulders by establishing the run. Hiring Anthony Campanile to oversee the defense should also help.

The bottom line is that the Jacksonville Jaguars are doing what they can to put their quarterback in a position to succeed, and Trevor Lawrence approves the moves they made in the offseason.
