Fans have gotten to know Travis Hunter and are quickly finding out that he's incredibly relatable. Whether he likes to play video games or his choice of gear for his graduation, the West Palm Beach, Florida native is pretty laid back. In fact, he recently revealed the first thing he ordered on Amazon after the Jacksonville Jaguars drafted him, and nobody will probably bat an eye.
During the second day of rookie minicamp, Hunter met with the press corps and said that the pajamas he wore under his gown at his graduation were the first thing he bought on Amazon after the Jags drafted him second overall.
"That's the first thing I ordered off
Amazon, when I got drafted that night," Hunter responded when someone in the beat asked him about the Jaguars pajamas.
That most definitely sounds like something Hunter would most definitely would do. Regarding his graduation, he said, "It was a blessing to be the first person in my family to walk across the stage, but you know, I was just thinking about getting back to work and come back to playing football."
Later in the exchange, Hunter told the press that he was just thrilled to get on the field with his fellow rookies and come out to work there and get better.
Already, the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner is making a strong impression. He lined up at receiver through drills and won't start on defense until next week. However, every rep he got and every route he ran got him a standing ovation from fans.
The Jaguars are hosting rookie minicamp on May 9-11. Veterans will show up until May 19 for Offseason Team Activities (OTAs). During this stage, live contact and offense vs. defense drills are prohibited. Clubs mostly focus on individual or group instructions. Below is Hunter's (and Liam Coen's) full exchange with the media.
Jaguars minicamp is only the beginning for Travis Hunter
As electrifying as Travis Hunter looked during drills in minicamp, this is just the beginning. He's got a long way to go before he takes the field in Week 1. Then again, you can do nothing but love his attitude and his passion for the game, which you can see on and off the field. In fact, he told the local media that he'll need to stay true to himself if he wants to have success.
"It's definitely a blessing to, you know, be able to do that. I gotta be authentic. gotta bring the energy up out here, make sure everybody have fun, with a smile on their face and doors," Hunter said.
Hunter says that this is important because it helps us bond, and that has an interesting undertone. He's low-key doing what you want leaders to do. It hasn't even been two days, and he's already setting the tone. The fact that he's doing it as a rookie is impressive and one of the reasons the Jags didn't hesitate to trade him.
All things considered, Travis Hunter is already leaving his mark. He'll have a chance to take another step in the right direction in OTAs.
