The Jacksonville Jaguars are in the process of trimming down the roster. One position they'll need to figure out is wide receiver. Travis Hunter, Brian Thomas Jr., Dyami Brown, and Parker Washington are locks to make the team. Trenton Irwin may also get the nod.

That leaves one spot left open, and there are different ways the Jags can fill it. Austin Trammell and Eli Pancol are the most logical in-house options, but it doesn't look like the team's brass is thrilled about either one.

Jacksonville could also give veteran DJ Chark Jr. a call and see what he has left. Another option could be to get in touch with the Las Vegas Raiders and inquire about Jakobi Meyers.

Jakobi Meyers wants a trade, and doesn't hurt the Jaguars to do due diligence

Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Media report that Jakobi Meyers has requested a trade, pointing out that the veteran receiver wanted a new contract but couldn't come to reach an agreement with Las Vegas.

The Raiders, for their part, aren't planning on trading Meyers due to his value. An undrafted free agent in 2019, the former North Carolina State Wolfpack signed with the New England Patriots. He followed his offensive coordinator, Josh McDaniels, with the Pats to the Raiders in 2023 and has been their most productive receiver the past two years, hauling in 158 receptions for 1,834 yards with 12 touchdowns.

It may not make sense for the Jaguars to trade for Jakobi Meyers

Jakobi Meyers could most definitely help the Jacksonville Jaguars, and they have the ammo to potentially pull off a trade. For the sake of the argument, let's say the Raiders ask for a second or a third, the Jags have three selections in Round 3 next year after a series of trades with the Detroit Lions. They could add a late-round selection to the package to get a deal done.

That said, there are several things that prevent Jacksonville from making a run for the seventh-year veteran. For starters, he would join a wide receiver group that includes Dyami Brown, Travis Hunter, Brian Thomas Jr., and Parker Washington.

Meyers is more of a WR2, and limiting him to a reserve role wouldn't make sense, especially if you're paying him market value money. Speaking of, he wants a new deal, and it's highly unlikely that the Jags will want to give it to him.

Ultimately, there's no doubt that Jakobi Meyers would give a massive boost to the Jaguars wide receiver corps. That said, it wouldn't make too sense to make a run for him from a financial and role standpoint, even if the Raiders make him available.
