The Jacksonville Jaguars had the sit out the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft because they gave the No. 36 pick to the Cleveland Browns as part of the trade to select the sport-altering Travis Hunter. It looks like they don't mind waiting, as they have traded their first third-round selection to the Detroit Lions.

A few moments before the Jags were set to pick, they traded selection No. 70 to the Lions. They'll now need to wait until pick No. 88. The deal didn't come out of nowhere. Michael Silver of The Athletic reported earlier on Day 2 that Jacksonville was planning a move with their first third-round selection.

In exchange for picks No. 70 and 182, the Lions will give pick No. 104 and their two third-round selections in 2025 to the Jaguars. All things considered, it was a pretty good haul.

The Jaguars had originally traded their second-round pick this year and swapped a couple of Day 3 selections. Now, James Gladstone will get the chance to put his draft philosophy, the one that led to success with the Los Angeles Rams front office, on full display.

It was a bit odd to see the Jaguars trade pick No. 70 since they last had a selection at the beginning of the first round. Then again, this shows the new regime's confidence in the players they acquired in free agency and the rest of the roster.

Already, the Jaguars brought in several players who will have starting roles in free agency. With all the ammo they're stockpiling on Day 3 of the draft, they'll have a prime opportunity to bolster the depth across the roster. When you think about it, that's a perfect strategy.

There weren't going to be many starting jobs open for competition, so the best thing the Jags could do was to improve the depth across the roster. With as many pick as they have on Day 3, they should be able to fortify virtually every position group.
