The Jacksonville Jaguars are were a very solid football team in 2022. They were very poor to start the season (2-6) but then went on a run.

Now, after a solid draft and another year of development, people believe that they can be even better again in 2023. With the quarterback, coach, and GM in place doing what they are doing, it is not all that crazy to view them as a Super Bowl contender.

They have to play a first-place schedule in 2023 which is going to be a nice challenge for them but there are other teams playing even harder schedules with worse rosters.

For the Jaguars, there is no reason that they shouldn't strive to be the top-seeded team in the entire AFC. That would mean they get a playoff bye which is never a bad thing. It would also mean that they are a top team in the league and will go into the playoffs with some great confidence.

The Jacksonville Jaguars could be the number one seed in the AFC.

Colin Cowherd went on his show last week and claimed that he believed Jacksonville will get the top seed in the AFC. That got everybody thinking.

He made some good points about the Jaguars only facing four elite quarterbacks this year (Joe Burrow, Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, and Josh Allen) and all four of them are spread out throughout the season.

If Cowherd is right, that would be a big deal for the Jaguars. Not only would they have the extra rest compared to some of the other teams, but they would also basically be gifted a free playoff win that other teams have to work for.

As mentioned before, the quarterback has a lot to do with this. Lawrence was considered to be one of the best QB prospects in recent memory. He started to live up to that in 2022 and another year in the league might really be good for him. Now, we can start to see him as an elite player.

The Jaguars also play in a very weak AFC South that will mostly start three rookies at quarterback (if everything goes according to plan).

If they can go 5-1 or 6-0 in their division and then win a majority of the games against the stiffer competition (which is what you need to do to be elite), they can be the number one seed. It sure is exciting to be thinking about the Jaguars in this light.
