The Jaguars have a long way to go before they're the Chiefs
The Jacksonville Jaguars are a very good NFL team. They took care of their business in Week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts. That is a game that they should win and they did.
The Colts may or may not be a bad team, that much is still to be determined. We do know that their roster is not as good as that of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Obviously, things were going to be different in Week 2 when the Jacksonville Jaguars had their home opener against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Of course. Kansas City is the team that ended the season for the Jaguars en route to winning the Super Bowl. They are clearly the team to beat in the NFL.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have a long way to go in this 2023 NFL season.
If the Jaguars want to be the best they are going to have to beat the best. Right now, the Chiefs are that squad. They are also going to be amongst the best teams in the league for a long time.
Unfortunately, this wasn’t the week for the Jaguars to get past the Chiefs with a win. Kansas City took the matchup by a final score of 17-9. It was a mostly bad game for the Jaguars.
Their defense did keep Kansas City to 17 points. With Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce in the lineup, that is an impressive feat for this Jaguars unit. They were the part of the team in question coming into the year. They did their job.
The offense, however, can’t say the same. We know Trevor Lawrence and all of his weapons are great but they didn’t get it done here. They have to score points against the Chiefs if they want to win.
Lawrence was 22-41 for 216 yards. He didn’t have a touchdown or an interception. We all know that he can be better but he just didn’t have his best stuff in this game.
In fact, the points that were needed here might be the least amount that the Jaguars will ever need again against the Chiefs while Mahomes is there. There is no doubt that this game was a letdown for Jaguars fans.
It shows that they have a lot of work to do. If they want to win the Super Bowl with this core, getting past the Chiefs might be completely necessary. There is no escaping them. We can only hope that this game was another stepping stone to finally getting that done.
