Jaguars 2023 NFL Draft: Dreams come true in final Round 1 projection
By Beau Adams
It's happening, It's all happening, Today is my favorite day of the NFL year. I decorate my bushes, change out my American flag for a Jacksonville Jaguar flag, and I make nachos. The tensions are high, the entire football world is on edge, and lives are about to change. The excitement and suspense are all-consuming, It is finally Draft Day.
I've run through my last mock draft before the big moment. Trades are being worked behind the scene, plans are coming to fruition, and some teams are going back to scratch due to recent developments. The Jaguars are now one of those teams with the suspension of Cam Robinson just being announced.
This news couldn't have come at a worse time. All I can hear out of Jacksonville are eyes rolling and screams of "not on Rex Manning day." It's an Empire Records quote, if you get it, you get it. So let's look at how the first round of my last 3 round mock draft breaks down.
The first five are pretty much automatic and locked down. Bryce Young to the Carolina Panthers, C.J. Stroud is a Texan (and now on Duval county’s most wanted list), Will Anderson to the Cardinals, and Colts take Floridas’, Anthony Richards. So that's two young quarterbacks going to the AFC South.
The Jaguars' hopes of takeoff an offensive tackle are eliminated by the 16th pick after the top four are taken. Paris Johnson to the Eagles, Peter Skoronski to the Titans, Darnell Wright will be protecting Aaron Rodgers for the Jets, and Broderick Jones is now a Washington Commander.
Something special happens at No.18. The Detroit Lions with their second pick in the draft USC Jordan Addison instead of addressing the tight end position. Myles Murphy goes off the board to the Chargers. The Vikings do go with a tight end at No. 23 and take Dalton Kincaid.
This leaves three of the five prospects the Jaguars are targeting available at No. 24, Alabamas' Brian Branch, Florida guard O'Cyrus Torrence and Notre Dame tight end Michael Mayer.
With the 24th pick in the 2023 NFL draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars select...
Watch this highlight clip of my new favorite Jaguars’ player Michael Mayer. Time to re-stock on jerseys, anyone else need one?
Mayer is a no-brainer here, he set all kinds of records at one of the top schools in college football. He has all the tools, pedigree, experience, and intangibles to be Jacksonville's first legendary tight end. It is nothing short of a miracle his was available at No. 24. Thank you to the football gawds and the big one that oversees the field in South Bend, Ind.; we got Michael Mayer.
Here is my total first round mock, tell me how I did or I guess we will find out in a few hours.
