Jacksonville Jaguars unveiling throwback uniforms at the perfect time (video)
The Jacksonville Jaguars teased throwback uniforms for months but never announced a date. This led some fans to think that they weren't going to do it, at least not this year. However, it's going to happen. The Jags have set the date for unveiling the classic unis.
One week before 2024 training camp, Jacksonville announced on social media that they'll well be revealing the throwbacks on July 18. Here's the video.
Pro-Bowl defensive end Josh Hines-Allen, for one, is thrilled about the new/classic uniforms, posting on social media that throwback jerseys are hot.
Other teams had unveiled their throwback uniforms in the offseason, which led to speculation about when the Jags would announce theirs. They announced their return in April but hadn't given an update until now.
The Jaguars even changed their avatar in April to reflect the return of the throwbacks.
The Jaguars throwbacks are the the ones they wore during their inaugural years. They were teal with white pants with teal, gold, and black stripes. One thing that stood out about them was that the numbers were gold outlined in gold and black. Also, they had a jaguar on the side of the sleeve.
When the Jaguars wore the inaugural jerseys, they enjoyed lots of success, making the playoffs four times and reaching the AFC Championship twice from 1996-1999. Perhaps that's why fans looked at them fondly and are generally seen as the best unis in franchise history.
The Jags ditched the first-generation unis in 2009 in favor of plain teal or white jerseys. Other than stripes on the shoulders, these were somewhat unremarkable. It didn't help that the team wasn't that good during the years they wore ithThen in 2013, they adopted the ones with the two-color outline and color shoulders. They were certainly different.
The last time Jacksonville switched jerseys was back in 2019. They've been wearing the same uniforms since then. They come in three colors (black, white, gold, and five different combinations. While they're not bad, they're rather plain.
The Jaguars unveiling the throwback uniforms in training camp is a reason for celebration
After the NFL Draft, things slow down considerably. You'll hear chatter about contracts, and trades, but not much is going on because players and takes are taking some time off. That's probably why the Jacksonville Jaguars chose the days before training camp to unveil the throwbacks.
With the organization announcing the return of the inaugural jerseys at this time, they're ensuring they're a topic of conversation ahead of the preseason and regular season.
It's also worth noting that this year is the Jaguars' 30th organization of their foundation, having played their first NFL game on September 3, 1995. All things considered, they couldn't have picked a better year and time to unveil the classic unis.
The Jaguars went 9-8 but failed to make the playoffs and finished second in the AFC South last year. They're expected to bounce back and reclaim the division in 2024. If they pull it off while wearing the classic uniforms, it will make it more noteworthy.
