Tight end Evan Engram is coming off a highly productive two-year stretch. He had a banner season for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2022 and followed it up with an even better 2023. Madden 25 just recognized his status as one of the top players at his position and the former Ole Miss Rebel showed in training camp why he's deserving of the spot.

While other players have gotten the spotlight, Engram has been his usual self in practice, putting in the work it takes to be one of the best at what he does. But every now and then, he'll make a highlight play that reminds everyone how talented he is.

In case you weren't able to watch the video, Engram runs a route and reels in a pass that was a bit behind. What stands out is that managed to haul it in with one hand while managing to keep both feet inside the field. If that had been on Game Day, it would've been deemed good.

And in case that clip wasn't enough, here's Engram with another one-handed catch, proving he's no one-trick pony. This one came in a win against the Indianapolis Colts last year.

A first-round pick in 2017, Engram spent his first five NFL seasons with the New York Giants. While he routinely flashed his playmaking prowess, his stint in the Big Apple was plagued by drops and mental mistakes. Since joining the Jags, though, the Georgia native has turned things around. In his first season in Jacksonville, he set new personal bests for catches and receiving yards. Along the way, he broke several team records.

The Jaguars were pleased enough with Engram's 2022 performance that they gave him a top-market contract in 2023. He rewarded their trust with an even better year. Although he averaged 8.4 yards per catch, he was tasked with creating yards after getting the ball. He excelled at it. His 500 yards after catch ranked second among tight ends last year.

On top of that, Engram's 114 catches in 2023 were two short of tying Zac Ertz's 116 for the most by a tight end in a season and were the second most in team history.

The Jaguars expect Evan Engram to be even better in 2024

The Jaguars added a pair of new weapons to the offense in Gabe Davis and Brian Thomas Jr. Christian Kirk is also back and hungry to remind everyone how good a player he is. This bodes well for Trevor Lawrence who'll have no shortage of weapons. The downside of the additions is that it will affect Engram's numbers.

Given the team's surplus of pass catchers, it's hard to see Engram getting as many targets as he did last year. Nevertheless, he will be expected to once again have a key role in the passing game.

So what's the reason behind Engram's success in Duval? Head coach Doug Pederson shared his thoughts.

"He approaches it like a professional," Pederson told the media in training camp when asked how the veteran tight end approaches his job. "Practice is at 9 am and he's out there at 8:20 going through a routine.

"That's what great players in this league do, especially guys, year in, year out, that have had consistent years and good years, and he's one of those. And he works on his craft, and he wants to improve, and he wants to show his teammates what it takes to be that pro and to get himself ready for just a training camp practice," Pederson said.

That one-hand catch Engram made in training camp? It's the result of how he approaches the game.
