The Jacksonville Jaguars surely braced for the worst when defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton had to be carted off the field during the win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 8. One day later, head coach Liam Coen confirmed that Ham is done for the season, leaving a massive void to fill on the interior defensive line.
For the time being, the Jags are signing a familiar face in Austin Johnson to bolster their depth at defensive tackle. However, that won't be enough to replace Hamilton. Don't be surprised if general manager James Gladstone takes a swing before the November 10 trade deadline. If he does, he'll have a handful of options, including Christian Barmore.
Christian Barmore gives the Jaguars a trade option amid Davon Hamilton's injury
It wasn't long ago that Christian Barmore was a starter for the New England Patriots. However, he's tumbled down the depth chart, which his why Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated reported that he could be available at the trade deadline.
More recently, Breer said on NBC Sports Boston that New England is looking for a fourth-rounder in exchange for Barmore. That price reflects his place on the depth chart and the impact he's had this season.
A second-round pick of the Pats in 2022, Barmore had a career-best 8.5 sacks in 2023. However, he was diagnosed with a blood clot in his lungs the following year and missed nearly all of the 2024 season.
Barmore was cleared to play in 2025 and has not dealt with any further health issues. While he hasn't been nearly as dominant as he was in 2023, he's most definitely done a good job of rushing the quarterback, registering 5.5 sacks dating back to last year. He could most definitely give the Jacksonville pass rush an immediate spark.
On the other hand, the former Alabama Crimson Tide isn't nearly as good as stopping the role, which may help explain why he's had a reduced role this season.

Why the Jaguars could make a push for Chrsitian Barmore
Jacksonville was already looking for help at defensive tackle even before DaVon Hamilton suffered the season-ending injury. The pursuit will only intensify in the aftermath, and with the deadline inching closer.
Jalen Carter may be their best option, given that the Philadelphia Eagles aren't seemingly open to trading fellow defensive tackle Moro Ojomo. But leaving aside that the Jaguars would have to take on his massive salary, they may also have to give up a first-round pick to acquire him. It would be worth it, but it would be far from cheap.
Meanwhile, Barmore would seemingly cost only a fourth. Then again, Jacksonville would also have to take on the remainder of the four-year, $84 million extension he signed in 2024. He would still have two years left after 2026. If the Jags traded for him, it's because they're going to make a long-term commitment to him.
Ideally, the Jaguars would trade for someone who excels at stymying the run like DaVon Hamilton did. The truth is that it will be hard to replace him, but Christian Barmore could help lessen the blow.
