Before DaVon Hamilton suffered a quad injury in Week 8 that has most likely brought his season to an abrupt end, the Jacksonville Jaguars were in need of help at defensive tackle. In the aftermath of the injury, the need has intensified.
In the aftermath of Hamilton's injury, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that Jacksonville will keep looking for reinforcements at defensive tackle.
While Daron Payne is off the table after landing on Injury Reserve, the Jags will still have a handful of options if they want to get a deal done before the November 10 deadline. And with this in mind, here are their best trade targets to replace Hamilton.
4 trade options for the Jaguars to replace DaVon Hamilton
Jalen Carter, Philadelphia Eagles
Because the Philadelphia Eagles traded Pro Bowl center Cam Jurgers, it was believed that they could deal other players, including Moro Ojomo. However, Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated reported that Philly isn't open to trading him, even though other teams have made inquiries.
Of course, it's possible that the Eagles are just trying to drive up his price, and if that's the case, the Jags shouldn't hesitate to meet their demands, which could be a second-round pick.
Ojomo had six sacks last year and has shown massive pass-rush upside. He's entering a contract year and could be either a one-year rental, or the Jags could sign him to a long-term extension if he comes through. Either way, the Lagos, Nigeria native would be a compelling option if Philadelphia made him available.
Jalen Carter, Philadelphia Eagles
If the Eagles want to keep Moro Ojomo beyond 2026, maybe they could make Jalen Carter available even though he just signed a four-year, $152 million extension. He's a proven commodity and would immediately give the Jacksonville interior defensive line a massive boost. However, he wouldn't come cheap.
For starters, the Jags may need to part ways with a first-rounder to have a shot at landing Carter. Philadelphia may accept that offer in an effort to rebuild in 2027. But on top of that, the Jaguars would be on the hook for the remaining $129.5 million of his deal that the Eagles haven't paid him.
The silver lining is that none of that is guaranteed, but if the Jags are going to invest a first-rounder in him, they would probably keep him for a while.
Zach Sieler, Miami Dolphins
Like Jalen Carter, Zach Sieler is a grizzled veteran, which is why the Jaguars may have to pay a premium for him if they want to trade for him. It's hard to tell if the Miami Dolphins would trade him, but they're undergoing a rebuild, so they'll need future picks to keep replenishing the roster. Maybe they can get a package, something like a second and seventh or a third and a fifth in return for him.
That may seem like a steep price, but you have to take into account that the Ferris State product has logged 27.5 sacks dating back to 2023.
Chris Barmore, New England Patriots
Of all the choices the Jags could have, Chris Barmore could be the biggest gamble. He was a second-round pick in 2021 and had a career-best 8.5 sacks in 2023. However, he's tumbled down the depth chart in New England, and the Patriots are reportedly open to trading him for a fourth-round selection.
Maybe Barmore could enjoy a fresh start in Duval. And if he gets going with the Jaguars, a fourth-round pick seems like a fair price to pay.
It's worth noting that Barmore signed a four-year deal worth $84 million and has two years left after 2026. The Jags would have to pay him $18 million and $19 million in 2027 and 2028, respectively. Then again, none of that would longer be guaranteed, so the team's brass could restructure his contract.
