The Jacksonville Jaguars have made it clear that Parker Washington is a big part of their plans next season. However, he's entering a contract year and has yet to get an extension even though he's done pretty much everything he can to earn it. But just when you thought No. 11 couldn't be any better, he outdid himself in the scrimmage the Jags held on Day 8 of training camp.
Although the defense made the offense earn every yard in the mock game, Michael DiRocco of ESPN reports that Trevor Lawrence had a productive outing, going 15-of-29 for 212 yards with three touchdowns. And guess who caught nearly half of his passes? That's right, Washington reeled in six receptions for 118 yards with one touchdown.
Running back LeQuint Allen Jr. and Brian Thomas Jr. also reached the end zone, but Washington was clearly the star of the day. And while he's stated that he's focused on becoming the best version of himself, he just put more pressure on Jacksonville to strike a deal.

The Jaguars did a good job of locking up defensive end Travon Walker and tight end Brenton Strange earlier this year. However, they still haven't reached an agreement with Parker Washington even though vice president of football operations Tony Boselli stated that extending him was a big priority..
It's possible that both sides haven't been able to touch base. This is a realistic scenario when you take into account that salaries at receiver have gone up substantially. Just these past few months, Zay Flowers, Jaydan Reed, and Christian Watson got extensions.
Washington was Jacksonville's most productive receiver in 2025, and he's trending toward being Trevor Lawrence's No. 1 target next season. When you factor in that he's also going to handle return duties, you can blame him for trying to maximize his value.

Unlike other players who want a new deal, Parker Washington chose not to hold in and has instead done his best to keep raising his stock. So far, it's worked. Leaving aside that he's trying out for any potential suitors in case he were to become a free agent in 2027, he's showing the Jaguars why he deserves to get a noticeable pay bump.
Washington is the first one to show up to practice. He hired a personal trainer full-time to be ready for an expanded role and has been a highlight throughout training camp. What else could the former Penn State Nittany Lion possibly do to get a new deal? Not much.
In the Jags' defense, they need to balance the cap, and they need to plan ahead. Moreover, Washington is still under contract next season. The issue is that if the team's brass waits until 2027 to strike a deal, the franchise tag may become the only choice to keep him from leaving, and it won't come cheap.
Maybe the Jaguars can strike a deal with Parker Washington before the regular season. If that's the case, this could turn out to be a silly storyline in retrospect. But until then, it won't stop being a concern.
