In spite of his contract situation looming, Parker Washington is focused on being the best version of himself he can be. This isn't surprising when you take into account that he's the kind of player who is willing to put the team over himself, and if the Jacksonville Jaguars want him to return punts, he would gladly do it.
As good as Washington was in 2025, it's easy to forget just how electrifying he's been as a returner throughout his career, so it would make sense for the Jaguars to have him handle return duties in spite of his expanded role on offense next season.
Parker Washington is open to returning punts for the Jaguars next season
Parker Washington met with the local media and said that he isn't closing the door on returning punts, noting that he just wants to be his best and help the Jaguars win.
"I mean, I talked to Heath [Farwell], and he said, 'Shoot, let's go,' and yeah. So I'm just open for the opportunity, whatever it is," Washington told reporters (18:23 mark). "Obviously, we'll get some more receiver play, but like I said, I just want to come out here and be my best self, and if that happens to be on return, shoot. I feel I've been studying that for a while now. Let's see if we can make some more plays."
Farwell also met with the press corps and said that he would be thrilled to see Washington handle return duties, noting that he's the best at what he does in the NFL.
"That's something we talked about this spring with Parker, and he expressed that he wants to return as well. He's a fantastic receiver, but he's an elite returner, and he's a game changer. He's feared across the league. He's the best returner in the National Football League as far as I'm concerned. So I'm excited when he says that he wants to play, wants to be back there, help the team win. That's the culture coach Liam's brought in, and he's just as part of it. He wants to win and help," Farwell said.
Washington has returned 43 punts for 611 yards with three touchdowns, but he's also scored in the preseason.

The Jaguars most definitely take advantage of this part of Washington's game.
Parker Washington can return punts, but the Jaguars have options
If the Jaguars want Parker Washington to return punts next season, he'll most definitely be in a position to increase his salary demands. But leaving his contract talks aside, the team could contribute on special teams and still have a bigger role at receiver.
During the exchange with the press, Heath Farwell brougth up Josh Cameron and maybe sophomore LeQuint Allen Jr. as candidates to return points. They could handle the role part-time to balance Washington's overall workload, but it can certainly be done.
The bottom line is that Parker Washington is too good a returner to only play offense next season. If the Jaguars are fully committed to keeping him around, they might as well make the most of his full skill set.
