Every day that goes by, the pressure keeps mounting to strike a deal with Parker Washington. The Jacksonville Jaguars have already taken care of most of their players, so it's fair to wonder what's holding back contract talks with the fourth-year wideout.
The good news is that Washington isn't letting contract negotiations affect his play, and based on his recent conversation with the local media, he's not going to let it become an issue.
Parker Washington isn't focused on contract talks with the Jaguars
Parker Washington had a media availability session after Day 7 of training camp. He says he's not focused on his contract situation, adding that he'll let his agent handle negotiations.
"That's not my focus, you know. I mean, yes, it's there, and it's a conversation, but my focus is just coming out here, and I need to make plays for Trevor," Washington told the media (17:43 mark). "So that's my mindset, and that's how I'm gonna attack it, you know. I'm not gonna step on my agent's toes; they can have those conversations. I'm just gonna come out here and do my job."
Later in the exchange, Washington said he was hyped up to see Zay Flowers get a top-market extension, noting that "the receiver market is crazy."
For context, Flower just signed a four-year $140 million extension with the Baltimore Ravens. Although Washington hasn't been as productive as him, he'll benefit from the deal, as it just raised the salaries for receivers.
Anyway, the Jaguars have been engaged in contract talks with Washington for a while, but have yet to reach an agreement. It's possible that both sides can't touch base on the compensation. After all, he was projected to earn a four-year deal worth $64 million in the early stages of the offseason, but the rates at the position have gone up since then because Flowers, Jayden Reed, and Christian Watson already inked extensions.
The Jaguars need to speed up negotiations with Parker Washington
Parker Washington flashed in his two seasons whenever he was thrust into action. Once the Jaguars moved on from Christian Kirk in 2025, he had a banner season, reeling in a career-best 58 receptions for 807 yards with five touchdowns. On top of that, the Sugar Land, Texas native is one of the most electrifying receivers in the league. When you factor in that Jacksonville wants to expand his role next season, it's easy to understand why he would want to get the best possible compensation.
It's hard to tell just how much money Washington wants, but nobody would bat an eye if he wanted $20 million per year. Based on the receiver market, teams would surely offer him $25 million if he's available next year. Because as good as the former Penn State Nittany Lion was in 2025, he could be even better next season.
The Jaguars should be thrilled that Parker Washington is handling his contract situation like the pro he is, but that doesn't mean they can let it linger into the regular season.
