Jaguars voice projects Parker Washington to cash out like Packers standout

The Jacksonville Jaguars were able to go 13-4 and win the AFC South title last year. One big reason was that a handful of players who had previously underperformed or had a smaller role had breakout seasons. Linebacker Devin Lloyd was probably the most notable one, but he was far from the only one. Cornerback Montaric Brown and wide receiver Parker Washington also came through.

Washington, in particular, was the Jags' best receiver. And following his impressive 2025, Spotrac projected him to get a four-year deal worth $64 million. However, Jacksonville may need to pay him even more than that.

A Jaguars voice projects Parker Washington to get a top-market contract

John Shipley of Sports Illustrated weighed in on what a potential Parker Washington extension could look like. He used the contracts fellow receivers Jayden Reed and Rashid Shaheed got in recent months as a reference.

Because all three are similar receivers with similar production, Shipley projects Washington to get a contract in the ballpark of $55 million with $25 million in guarantees after Reed and Shaheed inked deals worth $50.25 million and $51 million, respectively. Below is the reasoning:

"Shaheed signed a three-year, $51 million contract with the Seahawks. $34.735 million is guaranteed, of which $22.235 milion is fully guaranteed," Shipley wrote. "Meanwhile, Reed signed a three-year, $50.25 million deal with $20 million in guarantees. Reed and Shaeed have not shown themselves to be on vastly different levels than Washington when you compare the sample sizes, which means a deal would make plenty of sense for Washington -- at least if it happens now instead of next year."

Because Washington would be the latest to get a new deal, he would probably get more money, so the projection makes sense, even if it raises the bar substantially.

Saheed hauled in 59 catches for 687 yards with two touchdowns last season and crossed the 700-yard mark in 2023. Meanwhile, Reed missed time with injuries in 2025 but caught 55 passes for 857 yards with six touchdowns the year prior.

Washington, a sixth-round pick in 2023, was stuck behind Christian Kirk as a rookie. However, he flashed whenever he was thrust into action. Kirk dealt with injuries in 2024, and the former Penn State Nittany Lion made the most of his chances, racking up 32 receptions for 390 yards with three touchdowns. However, it wasn't until Liam Coen became the head coach in 2025 that he broke out.

In his first two seasons, Washington mostly lined up in the slot, but saw an uptick in playing time in the boundaries under Coen. This led to a career-best 58 receptions for 847 yards with five touchdowns. Already, the Sugar Land, Texas native is making a strong impression at Organized Team Activities, so a regression is highly unlikely.

That said, Washington may not be targeted as much with Jakobi Meyers, Brian Thomas Jr., and Travis Hunter all expected to make an impact. Nevertheless, he should stay productive, so the longer Jacksonville waits to pay him, the more it will have to fork out.

The Jaguars can't wait to extend Parker Washington

After giving defensive end Travon Walker a four-year extension worth $110 million, the Jaguars are focused on giving Parker Washington (and tight end Brenton Strange). This is understandable when you take into account that both of them played a pivotal role in their 2025 turnaround.

You could argue that the Jags would still have Brian Thomas Jr., Travis Hunter, and Jakobi Meyers if Washington leaves, but he was the best of the bunch last year, and it would be shocking to suddenly see him struggle.

Of course, the team's brass could wait until next year to extend Washington, but there's truly no incentive in waiting, as they would run the risk of either losing him or having to use the franchise tag on him.

Simply put, the Jaguars must act fast before Parker Washington's stock skyrockets, and re-signing him becomes a challenge.
