The Jacksonville Jaguars are going into the second season with Liam Coen at the helm. They were able to quickly hit the ground running, coming away with a division title. With the offense hitting on several cylinders, wide receiver Parker Washington was a huge reason for that.
He was the go-to option in the aerial attack, and with another year in this system under his belt, he should be in line for another big season. While that would be fantastic, it won't come cheap, as Washington is entering the final year of his rookie deal.
He's going to want a big extension, and with how the receiver market has blown up, he may not be inclined to take any discounts to stick around with the Jags if he hits the open market.
Jaguars could soon face a Parker Washington contract they can't avoid
During Washington's three seasons with Jacksonville, his production increased in each year. But last year was his breakout, and it shows what he's capable of with Coen and Trevor Lawrence running the show.
Season | Targets | Catches | Receiving Yards | Receiving Touchdowns |
|---|---|---|---|---|
2023 | 21 | 16 | 132 | 2 |
2024 | 51 | 32 | 390 | 3 |
2025 | 95 | 58 | 847 | 5 |
As the stats show, Washington posted career highs across the board in 2025. He was first on the team in targets, catches, and receiving yards, while being second in touchdown grabs. That wasn't a coincidence and displayed that he had gained the trust of his coach.
There were rumors that the Jags were going to move on from Brian Thomas Jr., but that ultimately wasn't the case. And for Washington's sake, that was the better move, as he will continue to have another dynamic playmaker on the field that will take pressure away from him.
If Washington has another effective campaign, his ability to command a lucrative contract will be more convincing. Per Spotrac, they project Washington to get an extension in the ballpark of four years, $60.7 million. That comes out to $15.7 million annually, but with how much receivers get paid, he may ask for way more.
32 receivers in the NFL make at least $15 million per season, which shows how much money teams are willing to pay for a receiver. There's a world where Washington balls out again and asks for $20 million-plus, which wouldn't be outlandish as the top of the market is getting $30 million and more.
If Jacksonville wants him around for the long haul, they'll have to cough up some money. And when you take a look at their cap situation in 2027, they will have to make some moves to free up some money. On Spotrac, Jacksonville sits at -$29 million in cap space for 2027.
They will have to make some cuts and restructure some deals just to get under the cap. Those are moves that need to be done before they can even think about an extension for Washington. Getting that massive extension is what all players in the NFL want. There's no guarantee how many of those chances will come, which is why you can see Washington looking to get as much money as possible.
While I'd imagine that he wants to stay with the Jags, he likely won't do them any favors at the negotiating table. And you wouldn't be able to blame him either.
