Even though teams have inquired about Brian Thomas Jr., the Jacksonville Jaguars aren't interested in trading Brian Thomas Jr. That was their stance early in the offseason and ahead of the London game against the Philadelphia Eagles. However, they should consider listening to offers in light of No. 7's struggles and the Marvin Harrison Jr. trade.
See, Thomas showed promise in the win over the Cincinnati Bengals, catching two passes for 18 yards with a touchdown. However, he took several steps back in the win against Philly. The former LSU Tiger had two chances to reel in a touchdown and squandered both. Heck, his struggles would have gotten more attention if Jacksonville hadn't won with Cam Little's walk-off field goal.
Compounding the issue is that the Arizona Cardinals managed to flip Harrison for a second-rounder and a fifth-year selection when they traded him to the Houston Texans. When you take into account that Thomas has been more productive, the Jaguars may be able to get a high draft pick if they trade him at the deadline.
Why the Jaguars should consider trading Brian Thomas Jr.
Brian Thomas Jr. has been at the center of trade chatter dating back to the 2025 deadline. However, general manager James Gladstone made it clear that any rumors that suggested they were planning to move him were fraudulent. More recently, Tom Pelissero of Netflix reported that Jacksonville isn't interested in moving on from the 2024 first-round pick, and understandably so.
As a rookie, Thomas took the NFL by storm, registering 82 receptions for 1,282 yards with 10 touchdowns. Expected to make a leap the following season, though, he instead dealt with drops and inconsistency.
This is why in the offseason, all eyes were on Thomas. He seemingly showed progress and improved his rapport with Trevor Lawrence. However, the Walker, Louisiana native had two costly drops in the loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 2. Rightly, he had a reduced role against the New England Patriots, registering just one target on 23 offensive snaps.
More recently, Thomas dropped what could've been a touchdown against Philly just before halftime. Later in the game, he caught a ball in the end zone but couldn't get both feet inbounds.
Working in Thomas favor is that the Jaguars have supported him in spite of his struggles. That said, it's fair to wonder just how much patience they're going to show, and if, at some point, Jacksonville is better off just pulling the plug on him.

Why the Jaguars could get a 2nd-rounder for Brian Thomas. Jr.
While the Jaguars aren't interested in trading Brian Thomas Jr., things are always fluid in the NFL. And clubs that were interested in Marvin Harrison Jr. but lost him to the Texans could make a push for him.
Of course, Jacksonville isn't going to trade Thomas for a fifth, but what if a team offers a second? Harrison only had five catches for 85 yards this season and never had 900 yards or more in any of his campaigns with the Cardinals. It didn't matter; Arizona got two draft picks in return for him.
Despite his drops and inconsistency, Thomas has been a better player than Harrison, and a team with playoff hopes may be desperate enough to meet the Jaguars' asking price.
Never say never, but as long as Thomas fails to hit his stride in Duval, a trade can't be ruled out.
