The Jacksonville Jaguars had trouble putting the Philadelphia Eagles away in Week 5. But with the game on the line, many of their playmakers came up clutch. Kicker Cam Little most definitely deserves his flowers for making the game-winning field goal, and so does running back Ameer Abdullah for getting him in range to nail his kick. That said, you can make a strong case that the Jags wouldn't have beaten Philly 19-17 if it weren't for wide receiver Parker Washington.

While Jacksonville struggled as a team throughout most of the game, Washington came through when called upon and finished the game with six receptions for a jaw-dropping 124 yards with six touchdowns.

Washington had already done enough to earn that contract extension his looking for. And after Week 5, he's leaving the Jags with no choice but to cave to his contract demands.

The Jaguars wouldn't have beaten the Eagles without Parker Washington

Liam Coen met with reporters after the not-pretty but gritty win. He gave Parker Washington his flowers, noting that he made critical plays at crucial times.

"Yeah, that was wild. That was wild. Yeah, he was rolling. I mean. It was a fast track, fast surface out there. Great atmosphere, obviously, but to do something with it every time," Coen told the press corps. "He made some critical plays and critical moments for us, but was very proud of Parker today."

Trevor Lawrence was equally efussive of Washington, stating that he's a bona fide No. 1 receiver.

"We consider him an elite wide receiver, so I don't know what everybody else thinks, but we feel like he's pretty freaking good. So I think what's important is what we believe on our team and the faith and trust that I have in him; that our whole team has in him. That's really all that matters. Everyone else on the outside will learn." Lawrence said.

Before the game, Washington had a team-best 16 receptions for 228 yards with two touchdowns in four games. He only reeled in one catch for seven yards against the Cincinnati Bengals but has otherwise been Lawrence's most trusted target.

After Week 5, Washington now has 22 catches for 252 yards with three touchdowns. That should strengthen his case to earn an extension.

The Jaguars cannot afford not to pay Parker Washington after dismatling the Eagles

The Jaguars made an effort to extend Parker Washington before the regular season started but weren't able to. They reportedly offered him around $25 million per year, but the fourth-year wideout chose to bet on himself. So far, it's paying off.

Early in 2026, Washington was projected to earn a four-year contract worth $64 million. That amount seems quite low now. While he may not get $40 million like some of the top receivers in the NFL, he should most definitely be within range of the $30 million mark. That's how good he is.

The truth is that the Jaguars already knew just how much of a game-changer Parker Washington is, but he made sure to leave no doubt with his jaw-dropping outing against the Eagles.
