A season that has far exceeded most people’s expectations could be destined for even better things. Coming off a 4-13 season in 2024, even the most optimistic fans couldn’t have predicted that the Jacksonville Jaguars would undergo such a quick turnaround under Liam Coen.
With three games to go, the Jags are on the verge of making the playoffs for the first time since 2022, but there’s still work to do. The Houston Texans are nipping at their heels in the AFC South, as are the Indianapolis Colts.
As much of a success as this season has been, there’s a real opportunity for the Jags to do something no one could have ever anticipated so soon: Make it all the way to the Super Bowl. Here's why it could happen.
The Jaguars are in a groove
Riding a five-game winning streak, the Jaguars are one of the hottest teams in football, with an offense on a roll. Trevor Lawrence has been particularly strong, throwing for nearly 900 yards in his last three games and 10 touchdowns without a single interception.

His Clemson teammate, Travis Etienne, is 10th in rushing and coming off a particularly strong day against the New York Jets with three touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Jakobi Meyers is becoming a dependable new addition, and Brian Thomas Jr. has been making some big plays. Parker Washington’s kick-returning and receiving add another dimension, and we haven’t even mentioned how vital the return of Brenton Strange has been.
Josh Hines-Allen is doing a much better job of disrupting opposing quarterbacks, while Cam Little’s field goal range is an added ace up Liam Coen’s sleeve.

Add to that their numerous game-changing turnovers, and you have a team that looks primed to make a big run in the postseason should they get there.
The best-case scenario for the Jaguars
There are still a lot of things that could happen between now and the end of the regular season. The Kansas City Chiefs being eliminated from postseason contention is the first step in an ideal scenario, should the Jags get into the playoffs.
Without the three-time AFC champions in the mix, that should make the path to the Super Bowl in that conference a lot smoother for many. The next biggest team to beat in the AFC is the Buffalo Bills. Although they’re nearly a lock to be in the playoffs for now, the Colts and Ravens could still catch them. Having either of those teams in the postseason should make Jacksonville’s path a little easier.
The Colts have petered off, while the Ravens have been up and down and don’t have a ton of momentum. Ensuring Josh Allen and the Bills miss the playoffs would be ideal for the Jags and make the AFC even more up for grabs.
Ideally, Indy sneaks in ahead of the Bills, though it’s unlikely Indy and the Jags could both get in, seeing as they play each other one more time. If it’s the Ravens, that’s still not a bad scenario for Coen’s group.
What are the Jaguars' biggest flaws?
No one will complain when a team is winning too much, but there are some things that might be holding the Jaguars back from making a Super Bowl run.
Defensively, they have been bailed out by turnovers. Of course, that’s something to be proud of. But going into the playoffs, they’ll be facing teams that are far more savvy, secure, and potent in opposition territory. They need to do a better job of forcing their opponents into three-and-outs. Offenses have moved the ball well against Anthony Campanile’s unit before making big turnover plays.
The defense needs to make a stronger statement out of the gate and avoid a bend but don’t break mentality, which can eventually wear you down.
While Hines-Allen has upped his game in the pass rush, as a team, the Jags D-line is still lagging a little.
Don’t look now but Josh Hines-Allen has 6.5 sacks in his last 6 games. He’s on a heater!

Travon Walker has been strong against the run, but he’s only got 2.5 sacks this season, with Arik Armstead at 5.5. Maason Smith showed a lot of promise last season, but he hasn’t looked as strong in 2025 with just four solo tackles and no sacks.
Fixing those two areas would do wonders for a Jags team that is becoming one of the most feared in the NFL.
The Jaguars Super window is now
When opportunity knocks, you have to take advantage. For Liam Coen and the Jaguars, there may be no better opportunity to make that elusive first Super Bowl appearance than right now.
Trevor Lawrence is playing probably the best football of his NFL career. Etienne is chalking up the yards from scrimmage, and the receiving crew, even without Travis Hunter, is as deep and potent as we’ve seen in probably decades.
The offense is explosive and becoming much more efficient in the red zone. While Lawrence is looking like the player we expected him to be, he still has his shortcomings, and there’s plenty of evidence that it may not last. Therefore, they have to cash in on this momentum he and the team have.
This guy Trevor Lawrence is pretty good at football.

Add to that the special team’s unit where Cam Little can hit from virtually anywhere, plus their dynamic return game, and you see how much more deadly this team can be.
While the defense overall has been up and down, turnovers have been massive and have contributed to this team’s success. It’s enabled the offense to work with short fields and taken points off the board of their opponents.
With the Chiefs out, the Ravens hovering below the playoff line, and the Bills' inconsistency this season, this may be the best chance the Jags get to reach the Super Bowl.
You must think the Chiefs will retool and get better next year, along with the Ravens and others. Of all the teams in the AFC right now, there’s an argument that the Jags have been the most consistent of late, and that includes Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos. As magical as their season has been, they’ve had to rescue themselves time and again. The Jags have done the same at times this year, but overall, they look like a team to beat.
Ultimately, the AFC has never been wider open than it is this season, and it’s up to the Jags to seize the moment.
