The Jacksonville Jaguars have a pretty good special teams trio in kicker Cam Little, long-snapper Ross Matiscik, and punter Logan Cooke. And just before their summer break, the team's brass took a massive step toward keeping the core together.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Jags have signed Matiscik to a two-year extension worth $3.8 million in new money, adding that he's now the highest-paid long snapper in the league.

At first sight, you could make the case that it doesn't make sense to pay a premium for Matiscik since they could easily look for a replacement in the NFL Draft. Nevertheless, Jacksonville is showcasing its commitment to having one of the best special teams units.

Ross Matiscik has been a mainstay of the Jaguars special teams

An undrafted free agent in 2020, Ross Matiscik quickly became a fixture of the Jaguars special teams, not only because of his skills as a long snapper but also because he contributes in return units.

It's also worth noting that Matiscik has yet to have a botched snap throughout his career. Not surprisingly, he's been selected to the Pro Bowl three times, the most recently coming in 2025.

Not surprisingly, Matiscik signed a four-year extension worth $5.07 million in 2024. His latest extension ensures he stays in Jacksonville through 2026.

The Jaguars next need to set their sights on Cam Little and Heat Farwell

Aside from paying Ross Matiscik, the Jaguars also rewarded Logan Cooke by making him the highest-paid punter in the league by giving him a four-year, $16 million deal in 2025. The 2018 seventh-round pick is one of the longest-tenured players on the roster, and it doesn't look like he'll be leaving anytime soon. Now, the organization has to turn its attention to Cam Little.

Little is entering his third NFL season and is now eligible for a contract. Although he dealt with a rough stretch, he bounced back and went on to nail kicks of 67 and 68 yards. Shockingly, he was a Pro Bowl snub, with the nod going to Cameron Dicker. That said, the Jags surely knew his value, and it will be a matter of time before they give him a new deal.

On the other hand, the Jaguars probably wouldn't have nearly as much success on special teams if it weren't for coach Heath Farwell, who originally landed in Duval during the Doug Pederson era.

Farwell joined the Jags in Pederson's first season with Jacksonville. He was one of the few coaches the new regime kept in 2025, and he got a one-year extension in 2025 to stick around. It's fair to say that by now, he's also earned a raise.

While the Jaguars have a pretty good offense and defense, they've also spared no expense to build one of the most talented special teams groups in the NFL. With the Ross Matiscik extension, they are making sure it will stay the same for the foreseeable future.
