The Jacksonville Jaguars defeated the Houston Texans in Week 3. But during the close game, they lost wide receiver Dyami Brown to a shoulder injury. The severity of the injury was unknown, but he didn't return.

One day after the 17-10 win, head coach Liam Coen met with the local media but didn't offer an update on Brown, pointing out that it was too early. That said, he did talk about his potential absence.

"I mean, concentrations, details, all that," Coen responded when asked about the reason drops plagued the Jags in Week 3 (0:18 mark). "Obviously, there were some moving pieces when Dyami went down, so we just got to look at who's going to end up playing some of those positions, if in fact, he can't go, which who knows? Just got to detail, detail, they got to get more on the jugs and get a better connection."

In total, Jacksonville was credited with five drops in the win over the Texans.

Dyam Brown has quckly become a key contributor for the Jaguars

A third-round pick by the Washington Commanders in 2021, Brown inked a one-year deal worth $10 million with the Jaguars in free agency. At the time, the signing raised eyebrows because he was a non-factor early in his NFL career, and it wasn't until 2024 that the former North Carolina Tar Heel put it all together.

Nevertheless, the team's brass was confident that his strong finish to 2024 was going to carry over in Jacksonville. So far, that's proven to be the case. After making a strong impression in training camp, Brown has hauled in 10 receptions for 116 yards with one touchdown in three games this season.

What's next for the Jaguars if Dyami Brown misses time?

Teams must be prepared in case the injury bug strikes, and in the Jaguars' case, they have options in case Dyami Brown misses time with an injury. The most obvious one is giving rookie Travis Hunter an expanded role on offense. In three games, he's had only 16 offensive targets, so nobody should bat an eye if he gets an expanded role in the upcoming weeks.

On the other hand, the Jags traded for Tim Patrick before the regular season. He logged a combined 19 offensive snaps the first two games but got 22 in the Week 3 win over the Houston Texans. Given his experience, nobody should bat an eye if he gets an even bigger role than Hunter if Brown is out.

The bottom line is that Dyami Brown is an integral cog on the Jacksonville offense, but the show must go on, and the Jaguars have in-house options to replace his production.
