Even though Tank Bigsby showed promise last year, the Jacksonville Jaguars traded him to the Philadelphia Eagles just one game into the 2025 season. Based on the early results, it looks like the Jags made the right call.
Jacskonville shipped Bigsby to the Eagles after the win over the Carolina Panthers in the opener. The third-year running back barely got playing time in his Philly debut, logging four snaps on special teams. Then in Week 3, he's already muffed two punt returns.
At this point, it's hard to see Bigsby getting more opportunities soon. So however you look at it, the Eagles' decision to trade for Bigsby simply hasn't paid off.
The Jaguars traded Tank Bigsby to the Eagles for a reason
The fact that the Jaguars traded Tank Bigsby shouldn't come as a surprise. Dating back to the draft, a report surfaced that the team's brass wasn't sold on him or Travis Etienne. This might've helped explain the decision to select Bhayshul Tuten and LeQuint Allen. But whereas Etienne made a strong impression in the new regime, Bigsby's stock plummeted over the past few months.
A third-round pick in 2023, Tank Bigsby had a rough rookie season. Aside from averaging less than 3.0 yards per carry, he made several costly mistakes that hurt the Jags. However, the former Auburn Tiger showed notable improvement last year, even outplaying fellow running back Travis Etienne.
Expected to make a leap in Year 3, Bigsby got the lion's share of the workload in training camp. But the preseason came, and he was phased out in favor of Etienne. Then, he barely got any carries in the season opener while Etienne got the starting nod and logged 143 rushing yards.
Bhayshul Tuten is helping the Jaguars thrive without Tank Bigsby
After the game, Jacksonville traded Bigsby to Philly in exchange for fifth (that can become a fourth) and sixth-round picks next year. And there's no doubt that having Tuten and Allen in the mix made it an easy decision.
Tuten is RB2 behind Etienne but has flashed whenever he's been given chances. On the other hand, Allen has wasted no time carving a niche as a pass-blocker.
When you add it all up, the Jaguars haven't missed a beat without Tank Bigsby, while the Eagles are surely feeling buyer's remorse just two games after the fact.
