You have to consistently prove yourself in the NFL, and you'll always be judged by your success or lack thereof. The Jacksonville Jaguars know this firsthand. Although they're 10-4 after beating the New York Jets, the spotlight has evaded them in the past year because they've failed to win on a consistent basis.
Then again, the Jags are beginning to garner attention across the league with every week that passes. In fact, their win over the Jets was so dominant that it triggered a massive coaching change.
The Jets fired Steve Wilks after losing the Jaguars
The Jets showed a bit of fight early in the game against the Jaguars, but Trevor Lawrence proved to be too much for their defense. No. 16 ended up scoring six total touchdowns and making NFL history along the way.
Not surprisingly, New York ousted defensive coordinator Steve Wilks, according to Zach Rosenblatt of The Athletic. Other outlets confirmed the news not long after.
Steve Wilks was relieved of his duties and Chris Harris is replacing him in the interim, Aaron Glenn announced.

What stands out about the move is that Jets head coach Aaron Glenn had just said after the loss that he still trusted Wilks to run the defense.
"I know that question is going to be asked, but I brought Wilks in for a reason," Glenn told reporters after the loss when asked if he would consider taking over playcalling on defense. "I want to run his system. We have three games left for our guys to go out there and play. Right now, it's not about the X's and O's across the board; it's about the character of the men on this team, and that is what I am evaluating."
Based on the timing of the firing, it looks like Glenn finished the evaluation not long after the loss. Then again, he probably had no choice. Under Wilks, the New York defense ranked 30th in both points surrendered and total yards. The humiliating loss to the Jags was the straw that broke the camel's back.
FINAL: Jaguars 48, Jets 20

In a word, embarrassing.
Two-week regression, especially on defense.
Wilks will get the heat, but Glenn deserves his share of the blame. Unacceptable product.
Defense had no answers for Lawrence. Still no INTs on the season.
Cook was game, but…
In Wilks' defense, he was dealt a bad hand. Before the Nov. 4 deadline, the Jets traded defensive staples Quinnen Williams and cornerback Sauce Gardner. Without much talent at his disposal, the odds were stacked against him.

The Jaguars are enjoying stability while Aaron Glenn's Jets struggle
For a change, the Jaguars are the ones watching other clubs make coaching moves. This is a breath of fresh air when you take into account that before hiring Liam Coen, they had three head coaches in a span of five years.
It's also worth noting that Jacksonville interviewed Aaron Glenn for its head-coach opening during their hiring cycle. Had the organization rolled with him instead of Coen, there's a strong chance it would be in the same spot the Jets currently find themselves in.
In fact, the win over the Jets goes on to prove that the Jaguars hit it out of the ballpark when they hired Liam Coen. Meanwhile, the New York Jets are already setting their sights on 2026.
