Early in the season, Trevor Lawrence was heavily criticized for failing to consistently play at a high level. However, he's quickly changed the narrative, as he's shown notable improvement in recent weeks. His growth couldn't have been more evident when the Jacksonville Jaguars faced the New York Jets in Week 15.
During the 48-20 win, Lawrence made plays with both his arm and legs. He was so dominant that Ross Tucker said at the midpoint of the game that it was the best half the fifth-year quarterback had played this season.
Similarly, teammate Travis Etienne said he hadn't seen Lawrence play so well dating back to their time together at Clemson. But if there were any doubts about just how special the former Tiger was against New York, a historic stat should put them to rest.
Trevor Lawrence made history with the Jaguars in the win vs. the Jets
Following the win over the Jets, NFL Media posted on social media that Trevor Lawrence was the first player in league history to have five passing touchdowns, one rushing touchdown, and more than 50 rushing yards in the same game.

But wait, there's more! Gus Logue of SB Nation also unveiled another jaw-dropping stat that showcased Lawrence's dominance. No. 16 joined Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers as one of the five quarterbacks who have thrown for five touchdown passes (or more) and have rushed for a touchdown dating back to 1970.
However you looked at it, being grouped with Rodgers and Brees is the kind of achievement every quarterback would strive for.
Trevor Lawrence credits his Jaguars teammates for his historic performance
Trevor Lawrence isn't the kind of player who'll take credit for himself, so it wasn't surprising to see him praise his teammates for his career day against the Jets.
"Yeah, I mean, I think we just, we executed really well," Lawrnece told the media what went behind his jaw-dropping performance (5:53 mark). "We got in the right plays, against the right looks, against what the Jets were doing. So I feel like we had a really good plan, and then guys just made a lot of plays down the field, and I was able to give them opportunities. And we protected so good up front. That also helps you, got a lot of time back there to distribute and, like, guys get open."
Lawrence continued, "So our group up front did a great job today. Again, no sacks today. I mean, that just doesn't happen often. And we've done it a lot this year. So it's proud of those guys up front. They've been playing great. And, yeah, like I said, we just came to play. We made the plays down the field when we needed to. We were pretty good on third down as well. Didn't have a ton of them today, but we were really good on third down when we needed it, and kept us on the field."
The Jaguars are now 10-4 with three games left in the season. If Trevor Lawrence keeps playing the way he did against the Jets, nobody will want to face them in the playoffs.
