The Jacksonville Jaguars expected big things from Travis Hunter in 2025, but a knee injury brougth his rookie season to a screeching halt. The good news is that the former Heisman Trophy winner is ahead of schedule in his recovery. Granted, it may still be a while before he's back at full strength, but he's already participating in practices.
On Day 1 of the Organized Team Activities, you could see Hunter doing drills and catching passes.

While there isn't an exact timeline for his full return, head coach Liam Coen says that Hunter is making the most out of his recovery.

Travis Hunter is taking advantage of the Jaguars' resources
Liam Coen had a stidown with Frank Frangie of 1010 XL. He said that Travis Hunter is in a good place, mentally and physically, highlighting the fact that he's added weight in the offseason.
"I'm extremely pleased with where Travis is at, both mentally and physically. Not a doctor, I don't know when he is going to be full go, but I do know that he runs outside on this field every morning with the guys, and he's looking damn good," Coen told Frangie (11:39 mark). "He's added so much mass on his upper half. He worked so hard in the weight room over the winter and through this offseason. He feels strong. I mean, there's no question he has gotten stronger, specifically in the upper half."
Coen continued, "He feels more confident moving around weight in the weight room, and just the way he's moving, and he's been very diligent about staying in the game.
Later in the exchange, Coen made it clear that Hunter has stayed involved with the team during the offseason and is pleased with all the work he's put in.
"We expanded our active meeting room downstairs and made it bigger, so he can go in there and basically play a game on the screen. So he can go and play a full game with calls, alignment, assignment adjustments, being able to play cloud, man, zone, whatever it is, and go play a game, and so that we've been able to lean into that to get him a ton of reps that he's missing right now, right, he's missing live reps," Coen said.
"But Travis, if there's anybody that's being diligent and on it. It's him, he's walking around with a walkie-talkie and mike, hearing the calls, getting the calls going, lining up. I mean, he's trying to do everything he can, and it's just, again, like I told him, a minor setback for a major comeback."
The truth is that Hunter didn't truly have to bulk up, but having a bit of extra mass and strength could ultimately allow him to perform at an even higher level next season.
The Jaguars should be thrilled to see Travis Hunter putting in the work
Travis Hunter had to learn the nuances of playing receiver as a rookie, so he understandably spent more time in offensive meetings. That said, he'll see an uptick in playing time on defense next season because of the way the roster is built.
This doesn't mean that the Jags will abandon the two-way vision, but rather that they'll put the West Palm Beach native in a position to make plays. Hitting the gym and studying during his recovery will most definitely help him pull it off.
While there's still a long way to go before the regular season, Travis Hunter is already putting in the work to ensure that he can pick up where he left off before he got hurt in 2025.
