Interest in Stefon Diggs shows Jaguars not done revamping roster after all

• Maybe it wasn't Stefon Diggs, but it looks like the Jaguars could sign a couple players before the draft.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have made it clear that they'll build around Trevor Lawrence this offseason. That's why it wasn't surprising to sign wide receiver Dyami Brown in free agency. Having said that, it seems like the Jags plan to make further additions to No. 16's arsenal of weapons, based on their interest in Stefon Diggs.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that Jacksonville did due diligence on Diggs before he signed a three-year deal worth $66 million with the New England Patriots.

"We saw the Patriots check in with Diggs about a week ago," Schefter said on NFL Live. "He traveled to Foxboro, went through a physical. They got a chance to look at him, talk to him about his knee, the ACL he tore Week 8 last year against the Colts. After that visit, I think there was some contact with some other teams. I think the Broncos checked in. I think the Jaguars checked in. I think other teams were just checking in.

Schefter continued, "But the Patriots certainly seemed to want Diggs the most, to the point where they offered him a three-year, $69 million contract with $26 million guaranteed."

The Jaguars' interest in Diggs is a bit surprising. Not only because they had already signed Brown but also because of comments general manager James Gladstone made after the first wave of free agency.

Gladstone told the local media that signing more veterans could stand in the way of their rookie class, so he didn't plan to make further additions. He was talking about the defensive trenches, but the same principle could be applied to virtually any position group. Nevertheless, their interest in Diggs shows that they are willing to make a few extra signings in the upcoming months after all.

With Diggs out of the receiver pool, though, the Jags will have limited options in free agency. Amari Cooper and Nelson Agholor are probably their top options, and if they're not interested in either, they will need to wait until the draft.

Here's Diggs talking about Diggs. His comments about interest from other teams come at the 7:55 mark.

The Jaguars are exploring ways to upgrade Trevor Lawrence's arsenal

The Jacksonville Jaguars have been looking for ways to bolster their wide receiver corps, even after signing Dyami Brown. This makes sense when you take into account that they moved on from Christian Kirk, Devin Duvernay, Josh Reynolds, and Tim Jones in the offseason.

Aside from Stefon Diggs, the team's brass had a meeting with Baylor prospect Monaray Baldwin at the Big 12 Pro Day. Of course, one is a proven veteran, and the other is a draft hopeful, but it shows that the Jags are casting a wide net. Their best option in the draft would be either Travis Hunter or Tetairoa McMillan at No. 5, but nobody would bat an eye if they went after Matthew Golden or Tre Harris in Round 2.

Perhaps the Jags will wait until a veteran is released, or maybe they'll stay put until the draft. But regardless of the path they take, it's great to see them looking for ways to keep raising the roster floor.
