To say that Trevor Lawrence has been underwhelming since the Jacksonville Jaguars spent the first overall pick on him four years ago would be an understatement. While it hasn't been all Lawrence's fault that the Jaguars have regressed mightily since winning the AFC South in 2022, he hasn't performed to the level that the franchise was hoping for when they took him number one overall in the 2021 NFL Draft.
That being said, there's still hope that Lawrence can be that player for the Jags. New Jaguars GM James Gladstone believes the best is yet to come for the former number one overall pick and said as much in his recent media session.
"I don't think we've seen the best of Trevor," Gladstone said while speaking to the media on Tuesday morning.
Jaguars fans will love what James Gladstone said about Trevor Lawrence
Gladstone isn't wrong with this quote. Lawrence hasn't looked like the same guy the Jags were hoping he'd be when they took him first overall after a stellar career at Clemson.
While Lawrence helped lead the Jaguars to an AFC South title in the 2022 season, it's been downhill since then. He put up great numbers that year, throwing for over 4,100 yards and 25 touchdowns, and only eight interceptions but injuries have prevented him from doing more damage in 2023 and 2024.
Lawrence has missed a combined seven games over the last two seasons and hopefully, he can find a way to stay healthy in 2025. Another 'hopefully' is that Liam Coen is the right guy to coach Lawrence and get the best out of him.
The AFC South is winnable, proven by the Texans' lackluster 10-7 record after getting overhyped in the offseason. If Lawrence can play like the guy we saw in 2022, the Jags have a chance to shock the league in 2025 and hopefully beyond.
