The Jacksonville Jaguars traded for Jakobi Meyers at the deadline because they needed help at receiver. Four games into his stint in Duval, he's proven to be everything the Jags bargained for and then some.

In fact, Meyers just made a jaw-dropping play against the Tennessee Titans that showed just how much of a difference-maker he's been in Jacksonville.

The Jaguars got a huge play from Jakobi Meyers vs. the Titans

The Jaguars punted on their first possession against Tennessee. The defense held the Titans offense to just a field goal, and once Jacksonville got the ball back, Trevor Lawrence started to target his playmakers. First, he connected with Parker Washington for a 26-yard gain. He then found Jakobi Meyers for a 50-yard bomb. Via the team's official PR account on Twitter, that was the longest play Jacksonville has had this season.

Just three plays later, Meyers would cap a seven-play, 84-yard drive with a touchdown reception to put the Jaguars up 7-3.

Before Week 13, Meyers had caught 12 passes on 15 targets for 155 yards with one touchdown as a member of the Jaguars. They traded for him not long after their overtime win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

Jakobi Meyer is making a strong bid to get a new contract with the Jaguars

An undrafted free agent in 2019, Jakobi Meyers spent his first four seasons with the New England Patriots before signing a three-year deal with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023. He posted career numbers in 2024 and made it clear that he wanted to get a contract extension. However, the Silver & Black wasn't willing to grant his request.

Meyers then let the Raiders know that he wanted to get traded. Nine games into the season, they shipped him to Jacksonville, where he's quickly become Trevor Lawrence's most trusted target. At the time of the trade, the Jags were dealing with injuries at receiver, so having him around gave them much-needed depth. Since then, though, he's exceeded expectations and is quickly making a case to earn the extension he wanted.

Given that Dyami Brown has been underwhelming, and Brian Thomas Jr. is dealing with a sophomore slump, nobody would be shocked if the Jaguars decide to extend Meyers, as he's outplayed his fellow receivers.

Of course, there's plenty of time left in the season for the Jaguars to make a decision. But every game, he's making it more difficult for thhem not to give him a new deal.
