Brian Thomas Jr. and other studs for the Jaguars in scrappy win vs. the Titans
Even after placing quarterback Trevor Lawrence on Injured Reserve, the Jacksonville Jaguars managed to beat the Tennessee Titans in Week 14. Sure, it was a low-scoring game, and the Jags made plenty of mistakes, but several players came through when they needed them the most.
Among those who stepped up was wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. After getting just three targets in the first two quarters, he became the focal point of the game plan in the second half, finishing the game with eight receptions for 86 yards on 12 targets.
Now, the former LSU Tiger has 851 yards on the season. Moreover, he is now 15 yards away and 10 catches away from breaking the team's records for the most yards and catches by a rookie in a season.
Thomas hauled in a 31 yards reception, and when quarterback Mac Jones was asked about it, he said that their best player made a good play.
"It was a great job by him. We talked about it in scramble rules and stuff," Jones told the local media after the win. "I got stuck in one of my reads and had to evade. It was a good pocket, so I just could've stayed there and threw. Kind of made it harder than it needed to be, but it was a great job by him just catching it."
But as impressive as Thomas was, he wasn't the only player who showed out for the Jaguars. This begs the question, who else shined against the Titans? These three players come to mind.
Josh Hines-Allen, defensive end
At times this season, Josh Hines-Allen has been overshadowed by bookend pass rusher Travon Walker. However, he continues to play at a high level. In Week 14, he tallied his seventh sack of the season and is now 3.5 away from setting a new franchise record.
Hines-Allen played 41 snaps against the Titans, the fourth-most among Jaguars defenders. On top of that, his Pro Football Focus overall grade of 89.5 was the highest any Jaguar posted in Week 14.
Tank Bigsby, running back
The Jaguars had trouble getting the running game going in the first half. Tank Bigsby and Travis Etienne had a combined 15 yards on eight carries between the first two. To its credit, the coaching staff didn't give up and continued to pound the ball.
That led to a more productive second half for Bigsby, who finished the game with 55 yards on 18 carries. That kind of production won't pop off the stat sheet, but the former Auburn Tiger deserves praise for making the most of his chances against a stout Tennessee Titans defensive front.
Jarrian Jones, cornerback
Cornerback Jarrian Jones made headlines in Week 13 because he was ejected for standing up for Trevor Lawrence. Against the Titans, he once again got the spotlight. This time because he batted a pass and sacked Will Levis in back-to-back plays. Following the game, the former Florida Seminole said that the team needed to make plays.
"When adversity strikes, as a team, you gotta find a way to come out and win, Joned told Brent Martineau of Action Sports Jax. "I love my brothers and the guys I get to do. We gave our best when our best is needed."
