Jarrian Jones didn't mince words when asked about DeMeco Ryans' response to brawl
The Jacksonville Jaguars came to the defense of Trevor Lawrence when the quarterback took a cheap shot from Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair this past weekend. Jarrian Jones was the Jaguars player ejected from the game for his role in the brawl that ensued after the dirty hit and he said he doesn't regret defending his quarterback or his team.
“I would do it again for the 70 other guys who make up this organization," Jones said when Mia O'Brien asked him about the situation. When the topic shifted to DeMeco Ryans, Jones didn't even want to entertain discussing the Texans head coach. “I don’t even wanna talk about that guy."
Jarrian Jones doesn't want to talk about DeMeco Ryans
It's hard to blame Jones for having this opinion on Ryans. After all, the day after the hit and ensuing brawl, Ryans said the blame should be placed on Lawrence and not on Al-Shaair. Ryans said that Lawrence needed to slide better and then had the audacity to say that the Jaguars overreacted to the situation.
"The entire thing is, Azeez is the guy, but their sideline overreacts, and it turns into a melee. It wasn't our guys, it's their team that overreacted, pushed our guy, dragging our guy to the sideline. So that's uncalled for on that side. We have to be better on the sidelines as well, with both teams."
I'd be curious if Ryans would have this same sentiment if a Jags player had hit C.J. Stroud in the same manner that Al-Shaair hit Lawrence and then the Texans ran in to stand up for their quarterback. My guess is he'd probably have stood up for his players if they did what the Jaguars did and not said they were overreacting.
It's been a frustrating season for the Jaguars and we all hope that Lawrence is okay and able to lead this team in 2025 and beyond.
