Head coach Liam Coen just expressed confidence in Brian Thomas Jr., pointing out that he and Trevor Lawrence have worked on their connection in the offseason. However, the Jacksonville Jaguars could still be looking to make upgrades to the wide receiver corps. Dating back to early May, they've been brought up as a landing spot for A.J. Brown. The speculation died down a bit in recent days, but it would surge after the latest update.

Carlos A. Lopez of SleeperHQ reports that the Philadelphia Eagles and the New England Patriots are "not particularly close" on a deal for Brown because the Pats aren't willing to give up a first-round pick for the Pro Bowl receiver. Josina Anderson more or less confirmed the scoop, pointing out that they have recently grappled over the components of the total trade compensation.

The Patriots aren't close to a deal with the Eagles for A.J. Brown

If the Eagles fail to strike a deal, New England could look for other potential trade partners. That could turn Jacksonville into a legitimate suitor for Brown.

Dating back to the early months of 2025, the Patriots were the obvious landing spot for A.J. Brown, who wasn't thrilled with his role in the Philadelphia offense last year. The Eagles have since made several additions to their wide receiver corps, including the selection of first-round pick Makai Lemon.

This makes it nearly a certainty that Philly will move on from Brown, probably after June 1, when it can split its cap hit in two. This begs the question, could the Jaguars emerge as a realistic trade partner for the 2019 second-round pick?

The Jaguars could emerge as a trade partner for A.J. Brown

Jason La Canfora of SportsBoom was the first to mention the Jaguars as a landing spot for A.J. Brown. Bleacher Report insider James Palmer stated not long after that he wouldn't rule out a trade. These reports were a tad surprising, though. After all, Jacksonville is stacked at receiver, with Travis Hunter, Brian Thomas Jr., Jakobi Meyers, and Parker Washington in the mix.

Another thing that makes a trade less likely is that the Jags would have to give up a second-rounder or Brian Thomas Jr. and a draft pick in return for Brown. On top of that, they would have to take on his contract. The good news is that the Eagles already paid most of his guarantees, but even then, Jacksonville would have to give up substantial resources to acquire the veteran wideout.

Make no mistake, though, Brown is one of the top receivers in the league, and his deep threat capabilities would take the Jacksonville offense to the next level. And if the Jags aren't fully sold on Brian Thomas Jr. bouncing back, a trade suddenly becomes a realistic possibility.

When it comes to the NFL, you can never say never. If negotiations between the Patriots and the Eagles unravel, the Jaguars could swoop in and trade for A.J. Brown.
