Seven weeks into the regular season, things are starting to take shape, with contenders emerging and pretenders slowly losing ground. Similarly, we now have a good idea of which quarterbacks are playing at a high level and which ones are not. The Jacksonville Jaguars, for their part, should be thrilled about Trevor Lawrence, whose strong play makes him a dark horse MVP candidate.
That said, Lawrence isn't the only signal-caller in the AFC South who's coming through for his team. C.J. Stroud is rolling and has the Houston Texans riding a two-game winning streak. Heck, he wasn't the reason they were 0-3 to start the season and could spice up the division race.
However, Lawrence and Stroud aren't the only quarterbacks in the AFC South, which begs the question, how are Daniel Jones and Cam Ward doing for the Indianapolis Colts and the Tennessee Titans, respectively? With this in mind, here's a quarterback ranking at the Jags' BYE week.
AFC South Week 7 quarterack rankings: Where does Trevor Lawrence sit?
Daniel Jones, Indianapolis Colts
Colts owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon ousted general manager Chris Ballard but is giving head coach Shane Steichen a chance to prove he deserves to keep his job beyond 2027. Things could change as the year progresses, but he may have trouble making a compelling case, and one big reason is that Daniel Jones has been underwhelming.
After a strong showing to start in 2025, Jones suffered a myriad of injuries that cut his season short. That didn't stop Indianapolis from giving him a two-year deal that ensured he stayed put. Looking back, it was a dreadful decision.
Jones has reverted to the quarterback who left much to be desired with the New York Giants. He's actively costing his team, throwing two interceptions in the loss to the Titans.
At this point in his career, Jones is who he is, and his brief 2025 surge appears to be an outlier rather than the norm.
Cam Ward, Tennessee Titans
Like Daniel Jones, Cam Ward has struggled. The difference is that he's in just his second NFL season, so there's a realistic chance he'll turn things around. That said, the former Miami Hurricane is one big reason Tennessee is 1-5 to start the year.
Ward has subpar fundamentals, and his decision-making isn't the best. In his defense, his supporting cast is inadequate, so you could make the case that he's far from the Titans' biggest concern.
This is probably why Tennessee head coach Robert Saleh isn't ready to bench Ward just yet. Then again, it's hard to see him having a sudden surge the rest of the way based on who things are unfolding in Nashville.
C.J. Stroud, Houston Texans
Although the Houston Texans lost three in a row to start the season, C.J. Stroud wasn't the reason. If anything, he gave them a fighting chance. And now that the rest of the team is playing better, the wins are coming their way.
Earlier this year, Stroud declined a contract offer Houston made and chose instead to bet on himself. The decision is paying off, as he's one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the NFL right now, completing 65.3 percent of his throws for 1,714 yards with nine touchdowns and just one interception.
Following the win over Jacksonville, the Texans have won back-to-back games and find themselves in the AFC South race. If they end up making a playoff push and competing for the division title, which is likely, Stroud will be a reason why.
Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars
Remember when there were trade proposals that sent Trevor Lawrence to the New York Giants? Or when supposedly Daniel Jones was a better quarterback? Those talking points aged poorly and look extremely silly in retrospect.
While Lawrence wasn't the most consistent quarterback and his decision-making wasn't always the best, he didn't always have a good supporting cast or continuity. He now has both. To nobody's surprise, No. 16 is having a strong season.
Lawrence has thrown 14 touchdowns to start the season. He had never thrown more than nine in the first six games. Similarly, he's making throws no other quarterbacks can make and putting the football in the tightest spaces because he's confident in his receivers and tight ends.
Even if Lawrence doesn't win the MVP award, he's on pace to have the best season of his career for the second year in a row.
