5 winners (and 2 losers) from the Jaguars' dominant win vs. the Patriots

The Jacksonville Jaguars faced the New England Patriots and their top-ranked defense in Week 3. They didn't care. Although the offense got off to a bit of a slow start, the Jags caught fire as the game progressed and ultimately scored 35 points.

On the other hand, the Jacksonville defense made things impossible for Drake Maye, who struggled so badly that he was benched in favor of Tommy DeVito. Sure, the outcome of the game was already decided by the time he left the field, but that shouldn't take anything away from a Jaguars team that was highly incentivized to bounce back from its Week 3 loss and showed up at EverBank ready to play.

With this in mind, here are 5 winners and two losers from the Jags' 35-6 win vs. New England.

Winners and losers from the Jaguars game vs. the Patriots

Winner: Davon Hamilton, defensive tackle

Nose tackles get overlooked because their job isn't fancy. They're supposed to occupy blockers and allow their teammates to make plays. This is why they stand out when they make plays, which is precisely what DaVon Hamilton did against the Patriots.

Drake Maye was attempting to throw, but the football slipped out of his hands. Hamilton recovered it and gave the Jags an extra possession, which they used to go up 7-0.

Loser: Brian Thomas Jr., wide receiver

Although Brian Thomas Jr. put in the work to cut down on the drops that plagued him in 2025, the issue resurfaced in the loss to the Denver Broncos. The Jags sent a brutal message when they kept him on the sidelines for the first offensive drive of the game.

Thomas ultimately joined the lineup and ended up playing 23 snaps on offense, but it's clear that Jacksonville won't be putting up with his drops any longer.

Winner: Josh Cameron, wide receiver

Speaking of Brian Thomas Jr., with him on the bench, Josh Cameron was on the field for Jacksonville's first offensive possession. Later in the game, he reeled in a catch from Trevor Lawrence to put the Jaguars up 7-0. Later in the game, he had a big return.

Cameron's strong training camp has carried over into the regular season and should keep seeing an uptick in opportunities.

Winner: Bhayshul Tuten, running back

The Jaguars were facing the top-ranked New England defense, but it didn't matter, as Bhayshul Tuten pierced it on his way to 73 yards with a touchdown on 15 carries. On top of that, he added two receptions for 17 yards. The former Virginia Tech Hokie proved that when you give him the football, good things will happen.

On a related note, fellow running back Chris Rodriguez also scored his first touchdown as a member fo the Jags, so you can make the case that Jacksonville has successfully fixed "the stink" from last year.

Winner: Travis Hunter, cornerback

There were doubts about how the Jags used Travis Hunter to start the season. Cameron Wolfe of NFL Media reported that they rotated him at cornerback because they wanted to ease him back into action after he suffered an MCL injury that cut his rookie campaign short.

Wolfe also stated that Hunter would see more playing time against the Patriots, and he did. Not only that, but he also took advantage of his opportunities, picking off quarterback Drake Maye in the end zone.

Winner: Parker Washington, receiver

For the nth time in as many weeks, Parker Washington made plays for Jacksonville. This time, he scored on back-to-back plays against the Patriots. Sure, the second one only happened because a penalty wiped out his first touchdown reception. Nevertheless, No. 11 showed that he will come through when the Jaguars need him.

At this point, it seems inevitable that he'll want a deal that pays him close to $30 million per year.

Loser: Cole Van Lanen, offensive lineman

It's hard to find a "loser" in a dominant win like the one Jacksonville had in Week 3. Cole Van Lanen might qualify since he played well overall, but his facemask penalty wiped out Parker Washington's first touchdown.

The silver lining is that Washington scored on the next play. If he hadn't, the penalty would get way more attention.

For a moment, I thought about including kicker Cam Little after missing his 70-yard field goal attempt, but you would probably agree that the kick had a low chance of succeeding. Heck, the Jags surely knew it was a coin flip.
