The Jacksonville Jaguars welcomed the New England Patriots in Week 3. This looked like a tough matchup because the Pats had the top-ranked defense. On top of that, they had a talented group of pass catchers, even with A.J. Brown on the Injured Reserve on the list. When you add it all up, it seemed like the game would come down to the wire, but it didn't. The Jags outright dominated.
Although Jacksonville got off to a somewhat slow start, both the offense and the defense proved to be too much for the Pats in what turned out to be a lopsided 35-6 win. That said, a handful of players stood out for the wrong reasons.
While the Jaguars as a team dominated, a handful of players failed to have an impact. These four, in particular, are watching their stock tumble after the win over New England in Week 3.
4 Jaguars who watched ther stock nosedive in the win vs. the Patriots
Montaric Brown, cornerback
Montaric Brown was solid against the Patriots, giving up just three receptions (on four targets) for 45 yards. However, he didn't particularly stand out. Both Travis Hunter and Jarrian Jones gave up more passing yards than him but also registered an interception each.
On top of that, Brown logged 30 snaps on defense, the fewest among the top cornerbacks on the Jacksonville roster. Granted, his usage could change from week to week, but there's also a chance he will take on a reduced role now, with Hunter expected to see an uptick in playing time.
Branson Combs, linebacker
Branson Combs emerged out of nowhere in the offseason to compete with Ventrell Miller for the starting job next to Foyesade Oluokun. Ultimately, though, neither was able to come out on top, and general manager James Gladstone stated that both would share playing time.
Fast forward to the season opener, and both indeed shared the role, but Miller got the start. Since then, his playing time has gone up, while Combs' snap tally has progressively gone down. In Week 3, the former Wake Forest Demon Deacon only logged 10 defensive snaps.
With Miller becoming a force at linebacker, expect that trend to continue.
Josh Hines-Allen, defensive end
Josh Hines-Allen got off to a slow start in 2025 and didn't record his first sack of the season until Week 9. This year, he had 1.5 sacks and five total pressures in the opener but has been quiet since then. The past two games, he's failed to register a sack or a single pressure.
Now, Hines-Allen has a penchant for disappearing at times, so he could have a monster game against the Cincinnati Bengals or another opponent. Having said that, the 2019 first-round pick says he would like to be discussed in the same breath as Myles Garrett, T.J. Watt, or any of the top pass-rushers in the NFL. Stretches like the one he's having show why he doesn't.
Brian Thomas Jr., wide receiver
The Jaguars needed Brian Thomas Jr. to deliver in the loss to the Denver Broncos, but he failed to come through. After registering two puzzling drops, the former LSU Tiger saw his role decrease against New England. Heading into the game, he had been targeted a combined 12 times but had only caught six passes for 80 yards.
In Week 3, Thomas played just 23 offensive snaps and was targeted just once. Meanwhile, rookie Josh Cameron saw an uptick in playing time.
Keep in mind that Thomas has struggled with drops in the past, so unless he can truly put them behind them, he may struggle to get playing time and targets moving forward.
