When you think of the Jaguars’ playmakers on defense right now, Josh Allen probably comes to mind. However, second-year cornerback Tyson Campbell could also become a mainstay on that side of the ball in 2022.

A second-round pick in last year’s draft, Campbell struggled early in his rookie season but he got better as the year progressed. He went on to lead Jacksonville in interceptions with two and there’s a chance he might have just scratched the surface of his potential. Teammates and coaches alike have raved about his growth in recent days.

Head coach Doug Pederson said recently that the former Georgia Bulldog is growing into a leadership role. Defensive coordinator Mike Caldwell also praised him when he met with the local media Wednesday, “he’s really a lockdown for us right now”. Similarly, Trevor Lawrence says Campbell has gotten stronger and faster this offseason.

Campbell has made plays through training camp and he logged four passes defensed on Day 13, per Mia O’Brien of 1010 XL. While he has lost his fair share of matchups to Zay Jones and Christian Kirk, he’s also won many of them.

Looking back, it’s possible that the Jaguars came out of the 2021 draft with a solid haul. Their first five picks are set to have feature roles this upcoming season. Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne might get the most attention but Campbell also figures to become a cornerstone in Year 2.
