Jaguars mock draft: 3rd round, 70th overall pick – Calvin Austin III, WR

The luxury of having two third-round picks is that you can walk away with two potential Day 1 starters. Even better is that one of those rookies can be a remarkable playmaker like Parham’s teammate, wide receiver Calvin Austin III.

Austin could quickly become a favorite of quarterback Trevor Lawrence; he’s a true number two or three option right out of the gate. The Memphis product checks off all the key boxes you look for in a wide receiver prospect, such as speed, reliable hands, solid route running, and versatility. If the Jaguars are looking for a jumpstart on their special teams, Austin can help in that department as well, posting two punt returns for touchdowns and averaging 27 yards per punt last year.

Austin’s versatility is another trait that Jacksonville should take note of. He can line up anywhere and has the much-sought talent of being able to score from anywhere on the field. Whether it’s out of the slot, where he stretches the field as a true deep vertical threat, or on draw plays, where he shows off his breakaway speed and separation. At No. 70, Austin would help to add another layer to the Jaguars’ offense, and at that number, it would be a steal for Baalke.
