Jaguars AFC South worst-case scenario No. 1: Titans sign Brandon Scherff.

Releasing guard Rodger Saffold gave the Titans $10 million in cap space but that wasn’t the only reason they pulled the trigger. Saffold is coming off a season in which he struggled in pass protection and all that money could help the Titans get over the hump.

Heading into the 2022 season, Tennessee likely has a sense of urgency. After all, they were one-and-done in the playoffs in 2021, just one year after advancing to the AFC Championship game. Injuries hit the Titans hard last season but they should get several players back. Cornerback Caleb Farley hardly play in his rookie campaign and running back Derrick Henry their offensive MVP, suffered a foot injury that forced him to miss nine games.

However, having some of their key contributors back and re-signing outside linebacker Harold Landry will help the Titans but it won’t be enough if they want to make some noise in the playoffs. Bolstering their offensive line should be their top priority this offseason and replacing Saffold with Brandon Scherff would give them a big boost.

Although Scherff has missed 24 games over the last five seasons, he’s one of the best offensive guards in the league when healthy, earning five Pro Bowl nods and one All-Pro designation since the Washinton Commanders made him the fifth overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. Signing him would ensure quarterback Ryan Tannehill has optional protection upfront and Henry has clear lanes.
