Jacksonville Jaguars trade target No. 2 – TE Adam Trautman

If the Jaguars’ brass believes trading for Marcus Davenport is excessive, they could pursue tight end Adam Trautman instead. The Dayton product played 15 games with six starts in 2020 and hauled in 15 receptions for 171 yards and one touchdown. While that doesn’t sound like a lot at first, he was behind veteran Jared Cook on the depth chart.

With Cook out of the picture, Trautman is poised to be the Saints’ number-one tight end in 2021 unless the Jaguars come calling, that is. Even though they signed Chris Mahertz in free agency and drafted Luke Farell, their tight end unit could still use some help. It’s true that they also acquired Tim Tebow but the former Gator has been out of the league for a while and is learning the position. For that reason, the Jags may not expect much from him in 2021.

On the other hand, Trautman is 24 but has plenty of upside. Last season, he earned a Pro Football Focus overall grade of 79.4 and posted a passer rating of 132. It’s possible that he lasted until Round 3 of 2020’s draft because Dayton isn’t known as a football factory. In fact, he was the first Flyer to be drafted since offensive lineman Bill Westbeld in 1977, but one look at his college production will show a very productive player.

The Saints knew Trautman could develop into a difference-maker in the NFL, that’s why they didn’t pass up the opportunity to draft him. The Jaguars shouldn’t miss out on the chance to acquire the sophomore tight end either.
