4. Josh Allen – Jacksonville Jaguars EDGE rusher

Here’s another player that had a down season in 2020 but should get back on track. EDGE defender Josh Allen made it look easy in his rookie campaign. That year, the 2019 first-round pick logged 10.5 sacks, 49 total pressures, 44 total tackles, 11 tackles for a loss, and two forced fumbles. Furthermore, he made the Pro Bowl.

Alas, Allen suffered a dip in production last year and posted just 2.5 sacks, seven total tackles, and two tackles for a loss. Now, context is important. The Kentucky product suffered a knee injury and was limited to eight games. Moreover, the Jaguars moved on from veteran Calais Campbell and Yannick Ngakoue last offseason. That left a void in the front seven and Allen was the only impact pass rusher on the roster in 2020.

On the bright side, there are several reasons why the Virginia native will have a dominant season in 2021. First, he should be fully healthy. Also, the Jaguars reinforced their defensive front this offseason. They signed Roy Robertson-Harris and Jihad Ward. Finally, sophomore K’Lavon Chaisson showed flashes toward the end of the 2020 season and should continue to get better.

Allen just turned 24 and his best football is still ahead of him. Back in his rookie season, he was a complementary player. He’s now the best pass rusher in Jacksonville. There’s a good chance he will finish the year with double-digit sacks and a Pro Bowl designation, the second one in his short NFL career.
